I live in Colchester and booked this holiday let for members of my family. They were traveling from Orkney, Aberdeen, Stirling and Bewdley to visit us in Colchester, Boxted and Wivenhoe. It was ideal for everything they wanted to do. We had a reunion in every sense of the word. They were inundated with invitations to visit and meet up. After a visit to the Grayson Perry exhibition at firstsite on its last day, eleven of us met up in the Goat and Boot pub for lunch and the local football derby on the Sunday after they arrived. They had a meal out with family living in Colchester in the evening. On Monday we met up at Colchester railway station and eight of us bought super-saver tickets for a day out in London. We lunched in Wagamama, St Paul's, walked over the Millenium Bridge, visited the Tate Modern, walked along the South Bank and took the tube to Oxford Street, Regent's Street and Carnaby Street. After drinks in O'Neill's we walked through Soho and China town to Covent Garden for the shops and market stalls. After an evening meal in Zizzi's, Bow Street, we returned to Colchester. Castellan is walking distance from Leisureworld and very near Colchester's department stores and shops. Some took the opportunity to swim, go to the gym or the spa, whilst others shopped for clothes and spectacles. In the evening eleven of us dined at Il Padrino's. Quite a few of us are keen cooks and we all agreed the food there was excellent. It's a short walk from Castellon. They enjoyed a visit to Portman Road, Ipswich, for a match, collected an excellent take away from Thai 1 on East Hill and visited cousins in Boxted for a musical evening before they went home. Castellan is walking distance from all the town's major shops, Colchester Castle, Hollytrees Museum and VIC and Castle Park, the local Natural History Museum, all the restaurants we visited, banks, building societies, firstsite and Minories art galleries, the Mercury Theatre, the Library and a rich choice of pubs, cafes, restaurants and take-aways. There are National Express links to London, other major towns and cities and Stansted Airport. There are fast rail links with London, Ipswich, Norwich and Chelmsford. Castellon is a short walk from Colchester and Colchester Town railway stations. We could have taken the train to the Essex Sunshine Coast from Colchester Town railway station, if the weather had been warmer and we hadn't so many other plans. The group from Scotland met up and came by car. The holiday let has parking for three cars a tremendous boon in Colchester, especially the Dutch Quarter, where Castellon is located and where parking is at a premium. Although it is only a short walk from all the town centre entertainment venues, this holiday let is wonderfully cosy and quiet. My family were delighted with it, it was ideally situated and fitted out for their stay.
My family and I spent our stay in Colchester in this lovely cottage close to High Street. Specifically, it is located in a quite residential area. The apartment is modern, well-equipped and suitable for families. There is a large private garden at the back and an area for parking at the front.
The host, Youseph, was available for any question before and after our arrival. He gave us a warm welcome with a "welcome pack" containing a Prosecco, fruit, and snacks. We also found oil, and canned food in the cupboard. All facilities was available and we had a comfortable stay.
I strongly recommend this place.
Fantastic location, walking distance to town centre & Castle Park. Plenty of parking.
Youseph (owner) is extremely accommodating and very hospitable. Bungalow is clean and welcoming, improvements to garden, windows and shower made a nice difference.
Will be back a 3rd time :)
It was great because the house is situated in the town centre, and my family were able to reach the tourist attractions very quickly (plus all the shops and restaurants were right next door to them). The area is also a quiet area of the town centre, so my family were able to relax in peace after an exhausting day of visiting attractions. The house is spatious and also sleeps 6 people easily.
Conveniently situated house in the heart of Colchester, yet very quiet and peaceful area. The house is fully equipped and clean. Very friendly welcome by the owners, who also always put a little welcome in the fridge to get you going. We've stayed twice already and are always happy to visit again.
After a tiring day of travelling it was a relief to find such a neat and cosy little house all ready for us. The extra little touches like tea bags and fresh fruit made us feel so welcome. The beds are comfortable, the house is warm and the kitchen is well-equipped. The owners are easy to communicate with and made sure that we were settled in for our longer stay. In terms of location you couldn't ask for a better spot! A beautiful park just down the road, town centre with bus stops just a few minutes' walk and yet the court is quiet and peaceful. A perfect base for exploring all that Colchester has to offer.
