Warwick Hall is ideal for a country getaway. "Our house, your house" seems to be the proprietors' mantra as Nick and Val welcome you into their sumptuous home. Their unobtrusive management style and the very pleasant team make you feel relaxed and nothing is too much effort. No mean achievement, given we were a group of 12 adults, (one disabled), 2 babies, 3 kids and 6 dogs.

Lots of space to roam around in splendid solitude and plenty of quiet corners to snuggle up in front of a crackling fire to read a book.

Would definitely go again, given the chance.

We booked this hotel because my husband knew the area and was interested to see the house. We arrived at 4pm on the Sunday and were greated by the owner and her staff. Very friendly, first name terms.

We were upgraded from the double room we had booked to the Garden Suite because this was the warmest room at a cold time of year. You cannot imagine my delight when we were shown the room. A beautiful lounge with a log burner, large flat screen TV, hi-fi and a small kitchen in the corner. A delightful bedroom with a great big bed and a warm well equipped bathroom.

We had booked for bed and breakfast, but that first night we had asked for an evening meal and were not disappointed. Fresh, home cooked food (no cooking by numbers at this hotel!). The most gorgeous home made parsnip soup to start, steamed fish with fresh vegetables and a fabulous (sinful!) plum souffle. Delicious...

We took breakfast in our room the next day which was lovely and we felt very pampered.
We had cereals, fruit and toast and coffee. We were offered a cooked breakfast if we wanted it.

The hotel is situated in 300 acres bordered by a river, so it is very quiet and private. It is only 4 miles into Carlisle and very handy for Hadrian's wall and all the fascinating villages in the area. There is lots to do at the hotel - you can even take fishing and golf lessons!

We just loved our stay at Warwick Hall and fully intend to visit again in the summer, when we will be asking for either the Garden Suite, or the River Suite.

We stopped for a night at Warwick Hall on our way up to Scotland. We have 2 young children, and had a huge room, big enough for all four of us. We were invited to use a nearby lounge and our a kitchen for tea and coffee.

The room was very good, extremely clean and very nicely furnished. Service was excellent, in the morning we were treated to an excellent breakfast in the large dining room, overlooking the river flowing outside.

I'd thoroughly recommend Warwick Hall, we'll definitely be stopping there again next time we're heading up to Scotland.

The room was great with big tv, comfortable bed/pillows and period furnishings.
My only negative was that it was quite cold in the room and the radiators didn't seem to get above lukewarm. As a result, I slept fully clothed and hence not well.
In summer it must be beautiful.

I'm so sorry you were cold in your room. We do try to see that everywhere in the house is cozy and warm.
There are thermostats on every radiator - it's possible the one in your room wasn't functioning properly.
I'm always happy for guests to tell me when they have a problem like yours - I can't fix it if I don't find out about it!
We provide electric blankets and extra duvets for anyone who wants one. A few of the rooms have their own fireplaces - and we provide free logs.
You'll remember the big log fires in the Drawing Room and Dining Room every night - it's all part of the country house experience.
Bring your tweeds and cashmere if you come in January, and tell us if your radiator isn't doing what it should. We want everyone to be comfortable!
Kind regards
Val Marriner

Delighted to have found this gem - given that we were looking for something "special" it could hardly have been more fitting and certainly didn't disappoint. Warwick Hall is all that was promised in the favourable accounts posted here and then some. A quintessentially English Country House, sympathetically decorated and furnished the hotel is full of the character and charm, made all the more cozy in December by open fires. Val and her team were gracious hosts and very accommodating, and were more than happy to tailor dining menu/timings to suit our whims. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Warwick Hall is a very impressive old English country estate built literally on the banks of the River Eden.We had a wonderful long weekend with a group of friends. We were made very welcome by the owners, Nick and Val, with tea and homemade cake provded on arrival. Dinner was excellent and great fun. The bedrooms were all different with lots of character and many had magnificient views of the River Eden and surrounding country side. Most bedrooms were large and had en suite facilities, and several had access to an adjoining upstairs lounge and a seperate kitchen, for those who wished to be more private. Val and her hard working team supplied a great British breakfast and looked after us all extremely well.

Myself and 16 girlfriends arrived at Warwick Hall on a snowy, cold December Friday evening. We were welcomed by Val into her cozy, comfortable home. We took over the whole house for the weekend and had the time of our lives. Walks by the river, excellent homemade food nothing was a problem for Val and her team. we would strongly recommend a stay at Warwick Hall.

Well done Val and thank you.
