We were welcomed with a some afternoon tea and delicious homemade cake and shown to our beautiful room. The views from the room were exceptional - you cant help but start to relax straight away. I was very impressed that the bed was of such a good quality that even a confirmed insomniac like me slept well. The breakfast was very good, and Lorraine and Martin make you feel that nothing is too much trouble. As a gay couple going to stay in a rural hotel, you sometimes have a slight trepidation that you might be met with a cool response (although admittedly its rare). Nothing could have been further from the truth: Martin and Lorraine clearly enjoy their work and it shows in the welcome they give.

Room Tip: We also looked at the self catering suite (we'll be going back with friends for a longer stay) a...

We have just spent a week in the self catering apartment at Hawksdale Lodge. What a great place. We received a warm welcome from Lorraine and Martin when we arrived and were offered tea and home made cake after our journey. The apartment was beautifully and comfortably furnished and had everything we could possibly need. Lorraine even came in and cleaned and changed the sheets halfway through the week," Best service ever in a self catering apartment !" I couldn't fault it.Hawksdale Lodge will definitely be our first choice for future Cumbrian holidays.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Hawksdale Lodge whilst attending a friends wedding. From the outset, we were made to feel so welcome, it was more like staying with family than checking in to a bed and breakfast; I cannot do justice to just how friendly and accommodating Lorraine and Martyn are (and Kit too!).
The breakfast is something to look forward to - others have mentioned the apple juice soaked oats with yoghurt and fruit, which was delightful (we're definitely going to attempt to replicate it at home) and that in itself would have been a great breakfast, but the full English breakfast that follows, made from ingredients sourced within miles of the property will definitely set you up for the day
Hawksdale Lodge itself is a beautiful and well maintained house in an idyllic setting - a destination in it's own right. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the bed was as comfortable, if not more so, than some of the best hotels I've stayed in.
We can thoroughly recommend a stay at Hawksdale and would definitely stay there again.

We have just spent one night at this idyllic B&B that offered excellent service from very friendly hosts and wonderful food. Homemade cake on arrival which was most welcome. Beautifully furnished apartment with all that we needed. Views from the property were spectacular. This is one of the best B&B's we have stayed at. Thanks to our hosts Martyn & Lorraine for making our stay most enjoyable. We will be back. Would like to keep this as our secret but at the same time wish to pass on what a great place Hawksdale Lodge is. Ann,Richard, Jane & Terry.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights after our wedding and were very impressed with the standard of the accommodation and the friendliness of the hosts. It was a wonderful place to spend our first two days as a married couple. The hosts went out of their way to make it a special experience for us. Which included upgrading us to the apartment which had been empty for the week in order to give us more privacy. A fantastic place to stay in gorgeous countryside with two perfect hosts. Thank you Hawksdale Lodge! :-)

Two nights bed and breakfast in this beautiful house, owned by two perfect hosts. My bedroom had an amazing view, a bed more comfortable than my own at home, plenty of hot water in the en suite bathroom and sumptuous furnishings. Breakfast is a real treat - fresh fruit and juice, oats soaked in apple juice, home made jam, a vegetarian option if you've room for something cooked and other delicious treats. Without fuss, Lorraine and Martyn ensure you have everything you need and are happy to advise on where to eat, what to see. There are plenty of local walks if you can tear yourself away from this perfect place. It is truly a little bit of heaven.

I'm writing this review on behalf of our Australian relatives (Fay & Ross, Brisbane) who have just spent three nights here in the apartment at Hawksdale Lodge which has its own entrance accessed from the car park, thus allowing complete privacy. They very much appreciated the warmth and friendliness of Lorraine and Martyn's greeting; Lorraine's home baking and the fresh eggs and milk provided; the fully-equipped kitchen (the best they've seen in holiday accommodation) which has all the essentials for making a full meal - good quality wine glasses, excellent selection of crockery, cutlery, etc., - right down to the provision of dishwasher and clothes detergent. The Lodge is immaculately kept, has beautiful furnishings and every window has a glorious view. Everything you could wish for is provided without having to ask and even the rooster isn't let out until 8a.m., so as not to disturb your peace!

Hawksdale sits in beautifully maintained grounds amongst stunning countryside looking across to the Pennines and there are walks along the river at the bottom of the lane (wellies provided) where you can wander deeper into the countryside or to the village of Dalston, around one and a half miles, which has a good range of shops - grocery, butcher, baker, gifts - two pubs serving food, and a tea room.

If you're looking for friendly hosts, immaculate accommodation and stunning scenery, then look no further.

Room Tip: The apartment is excellent if you require complete privacy, having its own entrance.
