“Simple, clean castle with lots of history”

We visited the castle in April with the kids. It was really quiet which helped the kids interest in the buildings as some had a spooky feel to them. The admission fee was around £20 which is fairly standard for this sort of attraction (2 adults, 2 kids) and was well worth the money. The military museum was closed for relocation which was disappointing but the rest of the castle and buildings were interesting with no clutter or over complicated history lessons. Staff were really helpful and friendly with a good, well priced shop.

Took the walk around the Castle with the dog and it was enormous! I believe it is 3 miles including Britts park.

An imposing structure, but not enough information boards helping to bring history to life. I would certainly have appreciated more explanations about the different parts of the castle. Currently, one has to purchase a guidebook in addition to paying the entry fee, but I don’t believe this should be the case.

We visited this museum in Carlisle and were very impressed by the dispalys, some hands on experiences and great for the kid in you (and for the kids too). From Roman history of the area to the natural world, local industry, railways etc.
We spent over 3 hours and didn't see all the it had to offer.
The bonus is that our admission ticket gives you access as often as you like during the following year so plan a few visiys to enjoy it all.
Good pot of tea in the cafe too.
