I found that there was no information about the castle unless you bought a tour guide which would have made it a expensive day out if you have children. We didnt have to pay as we are members and we both enjoyed the walk round but we didnt know what we were looking at half the time. the staff were busy with school partys so if we had any questions there was no one to ask. I think that information boards would have been ideal.as it must have had a powerful history. There were a few history facts as you went in but needs more. Good views from battlements

Although a great building there was none or very little information in each room of the castle. We chose not to buy the guide as the entrance was quite expensive. It should include a guide.

Very boring, barely any information telling you the history,no map so very hard to establish where you are. Would be nice to know some facts about the actual castle. One of the most boring attractions I have ever been to anywhere in the world. There is so much more that could be done to make the castle much better for visitors!

Upon entering the castle there is no doubt that you start to imagine yourself in the castle in times of battle. The giftshop and entrance situated in one of the old castle's entrances which marks the start of the "tour". However upon moving upstairs, I found the renovations (new vs old) to impose on the historical atmosphere which was a theme that would continue throughout the castle. It was extremely easy to pick out the places which walls had been repaired/recreated. I do admit that for places this old, renovations are always necessary, however in this case I thought that they were poorly done. The entrance price was fairly expensive - especially for a full family and the young lady at the front entrance (who was very helpful) indicated that a guide book would cost a further $4 pounds. Travelling through the castle it was clear that this $4 book was definitely required - there was little in the way of information on walls and around the castle and I felt that the castle relies on people purchasing books rather than providing free information throughout the castle. The museum was temporarily closed and will continue to be throughout most of 2014 but yet there is no discount on the entrance price during this time which I thought was a little bit unfair especially given the steep entrance price. There are a few photo opportunities within the castle walls but they are also limited with little to no props throughout the castle. The lack of food also means that you really just walk through and go so 1 - 2 hours is plenty of time to see the castle. If you do have small children, there is a park behind the castle with plenty of equipment, water fountains, mini golf, and a paid outdoor climbing centre that is not cheap but well worth it if you children enjoys climbing. Grab an ice cream and sit in the sun and watch the kids play!

Visited when it was a windy day and suffered when having our picnic lunch as the tables are in an open and exposed area.
Interiors were interesting for my son. There's a lot to read about if you have older kids with you.
Rooftop cannons- good photo op.
A bonus was bitts park right next to the castle, so you can really make a day of it.
