The County Hotel - first impressions. Good parking, great central location in the centre of Carlisle, on a busy main road. However, after 7pm? they close the road and it becomes a pedestrian route. Great I thought! Ah ... bars, clubs, stag and hen do's, and thumping base music ..... so hot in the bedroom that I had to have the window open .... and then finally when all the drunks have gone home they bring out the cleaning equipment. Huge lorries up and down, bin men, etc, etc.

The hotel itself is tired. A former great elegant hotel run down and neglected. Its a listed building and deserves better. My single room was clean, had everything I needed in it, soft, clean towels, etc. Free WiFi was an added bonus. Receptionist (man) friendly and helpful.

Would I stay again? Not with a front facing room, NO! For just one night and passing through ... perhaps but far better places around I think. Cheap and noisy I think I'd say!

Room Tip: Ask for a rear facing room over the car park. Might not look too attractive but you've come for...

Don't stay here. Have stayed in many hotels in Carlisle and this is the worst by far. Dirty sock on the floor and tags from clothing so not cleaned properly. Windows need sorting as do floorboards and bathroom pipes (exposed). Bathroom tiles dirty and walls behind headboard covered in dust. Radio in background during breakfast is horrible and the hotel is swarming with people with mental health issues. Obviously semi permanent residents. 3 star? On another planet. This has obviously been a stunning hotel in the past but stay elsewhere. Have paid the same price or less and been far better served.

Room Tip: Given them more than one chance. None.

We stayed here for 3 nights with 2 friends from Australia. They were appalled at the state of the hotel and staff. Upon arrival they couldn't find our booking although we had booked with Bookin.com. We waited 15 mins then we were taken to rooms 133 and 134 at the back of the hotel, up the fire escape. I think looking at the signs on the door that these rooms were staff rooms. The room was freezing and we asked fir the radiator to be switched on and could we have a couple of blankets. Staff came turned on the radiator with key then brought back 1 blanket, or friends got another duvet because they had run out of blankets. Ours had food bits hard and stuck to the blanket.
We went out for something to eat and on our return went into the bar to play cards. The table by the window, we were inundated with ants running around the table. The next morning I quietly told the different manager from previous day about the ants but he wasn't bothered. Girl on reception had only started that day so didn't know what to do.
Rooms are dirty, there was a spillage all down our door room 134. Shower didn't work, carpet very stained, paintwork peeling and dirty.
Staff seemed to be new and didn't know anything about anything.
Couldn't have windows open because rooms were at the back opposite a club which was very noisy. Side street was a meeting place for drunken revellers shouting at each other.
Would never stay in this hotel again, ok it was a reasonable price but not for dirty, drab rooms and surroundings and inefficient, inept staff.
I always give praise where praise is due in my reviews but this hotel takes the biscuit and I can't find a good word for it.

Room Tip: None are good. At back noisy from club, front are noisy from Carlisle's noisy nightlife and pubs...

Stayed for one night at the County Hotel Carlisle which is literally 1mins walk from Carlisle Railway Station.
Friendly reception staff, free wifi and an iron available on request, what more do you need at £40 per night.
Had a double room although a lone traveller which was clean and tidy although bathroom did have a large piece of plaster hanging down above the sink which I report to reception on checking out.
Breakfast is extra at £7.50 but no bad value really. Sausage highlight as locally sourced and tasted yummy!!
Would stay again but remember your not paying top whack so don't expect the ritz.

After driving all day from Scotland, we arrived at the hotel, after the specified check in time; we checked in and headed up to our room. Upon arrival we saw our room door was proped open with a pillow, the beds without sheets and all the bedding thrown around the room, as if a slumber parry had just taken place. When we went to the front desk to let them know, they told us they were behind and we will just have to wait. We have now been sitting outside of our room for over 30min and no one has shown up to finish the cleaning process. Up side, parking is free.

Chose this hotel because it was so close to the station and was cheaper than the two other options. Found out it was right over the centre of nightlife in Carlisle. Other people staying were obviously on a night out. It was very hot but had to keep windows closed because of the noise.
The room was large but outdated. The carpet was stained in various places, there was chewing gum on the walls and some of the light bulbs looked burnt.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good at a reasonable extra cost.
