The Gilsland Spa Hotel, Cumbria, Gilsand, Brampton, Cumbria CA8 7AR. Stayed here July 2013, lovely old-style hotel, fab food, staff and rooms, plenty lounges, huge conservatory, outside seating areas, no AC, bring fans if hot weather! beautiful ballroom, dancing, entertainment, beautiful grounds, 140 acres woodland and views! Countryside setting, went on coach trips everyday to Lake District, Yorkshire, Carlisle, Hexham, Northumbria, etc., this is a relaxing holiday, plenty to see, do, and fun outings, fun, enjoyable evenings....N.B. Would suit over 30's?

Room Tip: Front/East wings have views.

We only stayed one night on our way to Scotland. Location means you can walk into the centre of Carlisle in 10-15 minutes. Staff were very friendly and although we only had breakfast there, it was good food. The one disappointment was the room, and had we been staying for more than one night, we would have asked to move. It was very small and very dark, with furniture and decoration that badly needed updating. We booked through an online booking company, and perhaps that was the reason - a discounted room gets you one of the least favourable.

Tripper144,

Thank you for your most recent feedback.

I’m pleased you enjoyed your stay but also concerned about your feedback regarding the room you stayed in. We do offer three tiers of rooms – Executive / Superior / Classic. Whilst there is a clear distinction between the room types the Classics should still be of a satisfactory standard. It is a shame Trip Advisor does not always highlight the room the guest stayed in so this could be investigated further.

Kindest Regards

Jessey Bal

well, after the last stay at this hotel, it seemed a no brainer to stay here again. the hotel is nice with a homely feeling. the rooms are perfectly adequate, the breakfast is fabulous and the staff are nice. just far enough out of town, about a ten minute walk. large carpark to the rear, pub across the road and an indian restaurant. what could be better. the rooms are reasonably priced. the bar is good and the beer is the same price as the pub, excellent!!! although you do have to wait five minutes for the bar staff. this was my third stay here and to be honest, i wouldn't bother choosing anywhere else.the staff bent over double to give us an unforseen extra night. unless you are looking for five star then this hotel is great.

Room Tip: be polite.

Cumbria park is a very pleasant hotel with good parking provided. Entry to the hotel from the car park is via a small inviting area into a very nice interior. Food in the restaurant including breakfast was of a good standard in pleasant surroundings. Room was interesting and comfortable - good sleeping. Easy twenty minute walk to the city centre although the walk back was uphill. Overall we were happy with Cumbria Park and have rebooked it for our return from Scotland.

Room Tip: Get one near to a lift. Our only gripe was we had to pull our cases up steep stairs

Kevie2014,

Thank you for your really positive review. I’m really pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. As part of our check-in procedure assistance with baggage should be offered. So hopefully on your next stay we can make amends.

Stopped one night on way to Scotland. The staff including the bar restaurant staff were helpful and friendly. The room we were given was spacious and comfortable. the only negative was having to trek back to reception to ask for more tea making consumables as they did not appear to have been replenished from the previous guests.
