Its a farmers pub. A traditional pub with standard menu, duke box and early evening bar banter.
We found the staff attentive, as soon as we arrived we were made to feel welcome. All the inside tables were reserved, but the staff organised a table.
The Thatchers Gold was refreshing, and the fish and chip portion was more than generous - a very nice stopping point on our walk of Hadrian's Wall Walk.

We dropped in here for lunch on our 6th and last day walking Hadrian's Wall Path based on the recommendation in our guide book (although there was actually not much choice). The book mentioned the new management team (local and young) as a positive feature and so it proved.
We were made very welcome despite being very wet (luckily our only rainy day) - and then they had Timothy Taylor Landlord on tap which is a personal favourite. The fish & chips were top class and helped set us up for the final few miles to Bowness-on-Solway.
I strongly recommend this place to all walkers - and wish the very best to the new(ish) landlords!

If you are loking for a small intimate cosy country pub with a big roaring fire and low beams then the Greyhound is not for you. If you are looking for a well managed vilage pub serving very good pub food then the Greyhound is for you.
I have been for a meal twice during November with different friends and what a transformation to the place. The new tenant (he has actually been in charge previously) and his family have spruced the place up and provide a warm welcome. The content of the menu is about right for a pub this size, and the smallish number of dishes available is also good, otherwise the 'ping' sound would be heard a lot, which is what happens in pubs with extensive menus. All the food I'm sure is good, but I can definitely recommend the fish and chips - delicious! There was also a good range of beers in good order.
Down side - Watch out for dart throwers since you may have to eat along side the darts area, and if you are a wine drinker, have the bottled wine, not the stuff on tap.
