This working farm just off Hadrian's Wall Path at Boustead Hill offers an elegant accommodation in an ancestral farmhouse. The owner, Julie, welcomed us upon our late arrival and rescued us with an unexpected light dinner, which we very much appreciated after a long day of walking. The bedroom we occupied had matching wall coverings, upholstery and drapes. The beds were firm and had high quality linens. The bathroom was stocked with all of the essential toiletries. The breakfast menu offered the farm's own Cumberland sausage and a complete range of vegetarian options, fresh fruit and a wonderful organic yogurt. The owner was very cheery and made it very easy to get to know her and her life's work. The combination of the owner's personality, the setting and the attention to comfort made this a superior experience.

It's quite close - maybe 1/4 of a mile off Hadrian's Wall Path. There are lovely horses and cows - clearly a working farm. The woman who runs the B&B is incredible at how she can juggle everything at once. Our luggage had not been delivered and she made 4 calls to the company, one call to our prior stop, and finally jumped in her car and drove next door. How she determined our luggage ended up at the wrong place, I'll never know. But she did this while she was returning the horses to the stables, cleaning the undersides of their hooves, etc. The accommodations are warm and clean. Free Wi-Fi and a huge breakfast. I forgot to mention their dog that walks around with a ball in his mouth - wagging his tail incessantly.
Quite the charming place with a caretaker who has time to solve your problems.

Highfield Farm overlooks the marshes of the Solway Coast and is a lovely spot. Our room, or rather suite, consisted of a nicely furnished and very comfortable bedroom, a luxurious bathroom and a cute little lounge with TV and tea/coffee facilities and a settee. Lovely view of the Solway Firth from lounge and bedroom (photo attached). Downstairs are a comfortable sitting room and a dining room where we enjoyed a magnificent breakfast with top-quality ingredients. This is a working dairy farm which is also busy with riding activities and is run by a very nice and helpful family. Ideal for people walking the Hadrian's Wall footpath, as we were, but on the basis of a one-night stay I would recommend two or three. I would have stayed longer if I'd known how nice it is. The address has clearly led Tripadvisor's software to list Highfield Farm as a Carlisle establishment. I like Carlisle very much but the farm is nearly ten miles from Carlisle. It might as well be in another world, such is the peace and space, although there are some good pubs nearby where meals are served. Very highly recommended as one of the best B&Bs I have experienced.
