“Nice people, ideal location”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Just stayed here for 4 nights.

First night not so good! Lovely double room but on the busy roadside and by the front door. Noisy traffic from 6am and noisy door banging when people go in and out. Mentioned it to the owner at breakfast who went out of her way to move us to a quieter twin room at the back of the house. Again another lovely room, comfy beds, nice linen / towels, good tv , tea / coffee and decent en suite shower room. Best of all lovely and quiet :)

Towels and room cleaned daily.

Breakfast 7-8 am Mon-Fri, 8-9 am Sat / Sun. Choice of cereals, toast or full english, tea, coffee or juice, all presented nicely and cooked to perfection.

Plenty of parking off the road around the back of hotel.

Location perfect walking distance to Bedford station (5 mins) or Bedford town.

All in all, had a nice stay and the owners / staff are really friendly, helpful and cheerful.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of property much quieter

I needed to attend a reunion and looked to stay nearby and the Tennyson fitted the bill. The hotel is an impressive old Victorian building on a busy street with a lot of traffic.
I booked into a double with on suite facilities and my room was at the front of the building. Traffic noise is a problem but as I had lived previously on Shakespeare Road in the 80's when there wasn't double glazing I hardly noticed the passing traffic.
I was welcomed by staff when I arrived and checking in was effortless. The staff were keen to promote Bedford and offered advice on places to go and even offered a map but these weren't needed
Breakfast is included in the deal and I was asked what time I wanted the breakfast and what I wanted. The hotel however only offers the breakfast between 8 and 9 which was convenient for me but I don't know what would have happened if it wasn't .
The room décor was dated but that was to be expected with the age of the building but the room was welcoming with free wifi,a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities, a nice bed, a tv and room to be able to walk around .
There is plenty of parking to the rear of the building .
Will definitely consider staying there again

Room Tip: If noise bothers you ask if there is a room at the rear at the property.

I have been at Tennyson House Hotel for an entire week and the stay has been perfect.

The location is quite good. It is not very far from the city center (about ten minutes by walk), but it is definitely a quiet and nice area and very close to the train station (5 minutes by walk).

The rooms are clean and elegant, very luminous and comfortable --the right place to rest. The hotel has an old victorian looking but accomodated with the modern facilites (brand new tvs, good internet access, instant coffee, ketle, etc.).

The food is gorgeous, you can choose between a tasty traditional english breackfast and the classic continental. Everything is in the right track, and, furthermore, they offer a flexible timetable if you need it.

The whole staff is very kind and attentive and is willing to help.

Why try another one if you can enjoy directly?

My friend and I stayed at Tennyson house for the weekend. The hotel was very clean and our twin room was adequate for our needs.... although if either of us had been any bigger we would not have fitted in the en-suite!
Breakfast was what you would expect for a bed & breakfast at this price, but it was cooked and presented well.

When we checked in we were given a street map, and all the places we wanted to go were marked on it for us. A 10/15 minute walk takes you to the centre of Bedford so ideally located.

I would stay here again should I visit Bedford in the future.

Stayed in a twin ensuite room for one night in June 2013. The staff were very helpful and when they found out I was a vegan they went out of their way to accommodate my needs for breakfast. I really appreciated that they even went out specially to buy vegan friendly stuff.
The breakfast was excellent and the service top notch and friendly.

Lovely stay in Tennison House Hotel.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this B+B in Bedford for two weeks, as well as my interactions with the owners, who I was fortunate to meet too. The room itself is furnished with all the necessities and is a welcome place at the end of a tough day of working at the hospital. I enjoyed breakfast overlooking the beautiful garden. The hotel is also well located for exploring the surroundings, access and connections were very good. I would gladly recommend this hotel as a place to stay when visiting Bedford.

After over 30 years living with a Hawkwind fan I was persuaded to go with him to a concert and booked at the Tennyson. Whilst out of town the walk to the Corn Exchange only took about 20 minutes. Room was clean, quiet and warm. Good breakfast and very pleasant staff.

Room Tip: Room 8 at the back of hotel as a busy main road runs past at the front
