Myrtle Cottage was ideal for our family reunion - 6 adults and a toddler. It is very comfortable, clean and freshly decorated. It is vextremely well equipped in all respects - eg toys, stair gates, high chair and travel cot available for our Granddaughter.
It is situated on a quiet road 2 minutes walk from the village centre therefore an ideal location.
The separate shower room as mentioned in a previous review is a bit small but we found that having this additional facility was a benefit.
Myrtle Cottage is a wonderful place to stay, it is set in the beautiful village/town of Ballater in the Cairngorms National Park a few miles from Balmoral, on the banks of the stunning River Dee, surrounded by pine clad hills and mountains. This is our second stay at Myrtle Cottage and our 8th year in a row coming to Ballater, we love it that much we've given up going abroad! There is something here for everyone.
First the Cottage - it is charming, warm and welcoming, spotless and is a great layout for a combination of visitors, having one double downstairs and another double along with a twin room upstairs. There is a downstairs cloakroom and an upstairs bathroom with a separate shower room (albeit small, but does the job it needs to!) the bath is lovely and large and it was a treat to have such great water pressure! The kitchen is great and equipped with all that you could need, the lounge with its open fire is wonderful on an evening. Our favourite room is the sun room at the end of the house, the sun really does stream in and we spent most of our free time there. There is a wealth of books/magazines/games/guide books to keep you entertained and occupied, garden furniture to sit outside surrounded in August with the smell of honeysuckle and lilac - perfect! The peace and quiet on this little side street was wonderful and a 2-5 minute walk finds you in the centre of Ballater.
The Village - Ballater is a great, friendly place - restaurants, pubs, great shops from butcher to deli, bookshop to outdoor clothing, gift shops and cafes, you can even hire bikes if you don't want to bring your own and the Coop supplies all groceries, and the bakers is marvellous! It is clean and pretty with flowers and greens to sit on and watch the world go by.
This is a great cottage for anyone who wants to experience the fresh air of Scotland and the beautiful surroundings. Walking, fishing, relaxing, biking - the list is endless. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home with us and we'll definitely be back!
Booked through a rather old fashioned website, we didn't have many expectations of our rental, and so we were blown away.
Kitchen is gorgeous, all bedrooms and living rooms were clean and beautifully decorated. The dog was welcome and we loved the real fire (even though we didn't really need it).
Lovely welcome basket on arrival was a fantastic touch, as was the milk in the fridge meaning we could make a cuppa.
We'll definitely be back.
