“A very pleasant stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2009

We stayed at the Hilton Craigendarroch from the 23rd to 25th May.
We had a deluxe room which we booked via their website.
Our room and bathroom was fine – very clean with a huge bed, and a balcony,
and a nice big flat screen television.

However, the corridor leading up to the room wasn’t too impressive, with a musty odour
and stains on the carpet.

The staff - from reception to the bar and the restaurants were all very friendly and helpful.
However, it was obvious that a lot of the staff were quite new (quite a few East Europeans) and just finding their way around. But no matter the nationality, they were all very friendly.

The buffet breakfast was excellent with a great selection of cereals, fresh fruit, and loads
of ‘stuff’for my full Scottish breakfast.
We only had dinner once at the hotel (Club House) but found it good value and we both enjoyed what we ordered.

There are two swimming pools – one for kids and a games room for adults as well as kids.
There’s also table tennis, squash and a full size snooker table.
The grounds of the hotel are very nice for taking a stroll around.
And of course, for trekkers like us, there’s so much choice of walks in the vicinity of Ballater.

A romantic weekend trip with my girlfriend to scotland was a bit disapointed.
The hotel looks very nice from the outside. We had the most simple room and shocked to find mold on the curtains in the bathroom, a broken window fixed with ducktape. The room was very outdated and very noisy.
Lovely location in scotland though. Lovely swimmingpool, lovely staff also. Very good english breakfast.
However the hotel does not seem worthy of the hilton name.

We found a good deal for a suite, which made all the difference. The suite was amazing, massive leather sofa, flatscreen tvs and a jacuszzi. There was no playstation or bathrobes though, which we had been told there would be. The hotel is nicely done up, if a little dated. The pool is very nice and has rockpool and pretty features, and the sauna and steam room are always nice. We only dined in teh hotel once, at the clubhouse - the food wasn't the best. The breakfast buffet is great though, amazing array of cereals, fruits, cooked breakfast, cold meats&cheeses, porridge etc... Beautiful, out-of-the-way location.

A beautiful part of the country with the potential to be a lovely hotel IF it were brought up to Hilton 4* standards. As it is, expect old musty rooms, mould in the bathrooms ( walls, curtains, shower curtains). Poor service and food in the club house restaurant. The reception staff are lovely and the breakfast is very good but please do yourself a favour - book elsewhere.
This was supposed to be a romantic break, my boyfriend flew from Holland especially. what a disappointment. I felt I had to apologise for my poor choice of hotel. I cannot understand how the Hilton can be happy to put it's brand on this hotel.

This hotel is poor on all aspects apart from location. went away for 2 nights looking forward to good food and the cosy bar.The room was ok we had a suit we got it at a very good price thank goodness. It was clean but very old could have done with some new paint. The night we arrived ths oaks resturant was shut it only opens thurs to sun (very strange) so we had to eat in the club house 3 couses for£15 not bad but we didnt want a cheap meal but no choice the food was ok but the service was awful we had to ask for wine as no one offered us anything to drink didnt even wait for coffee though we would get one in the hotels cosy bar but guess what it only opens thus to sun .after a few words with duty manager we were told she would let us have one drink but we would have to leave at 9 45pm as it was booked after that for a private fuction there was a bar in the club house but it was like something from a travelinn .oaks resturant was ok they call if fine dinning but they have a long way to go for that.

We visited this hotel in April and were not impressed with any of it really. The room was a 4 poster with spa bath. The material behind the bed was stained and smelly , as wes the window furniture and cushions.
The bath had no hand rail to assist safe in and out and the while bathroom carpet smelled of fungus.
Some of the lights did not work and many bulbs in lights were missing. The furnature was falling apart, especially the wardrobe and the coffee table was extremely stained.
Staff were pleasant and breakfast was only adequate, very poorly managed returant.
Location was great but I would never stay here again, we previously stayed at the York and Edinburgh ( Caledonian ) Hiltons and both were very , very good.

My husband, daughter and I stayed at the hotel for a weekend in April. We found the hotel to be clean and comfortable which are very important to me and my family. The leisure facility is fabulous with a great pool and really clean and well equipped changing rooms. The staff around the hotel are all so helpful and friendly and great with children. Our daughter was especially taken with one of the staff from the bar/lounge who was fantastic with her. It really helped to make our weekend and we could really relax knowing that she was having a good time too.
