Owner description: Neighbouring Balmoral Castle, Royal Lochnagar is the perfect place to discover how Scotch Whisky is made. Watch as our team of operators tend to our traditional mashtun, gleaming copper stills and fill casks at our traditional distillery, which retains much of its original charm. The tour ends with a dram of the award-winning Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old Single Highland Malt.

Decided to visit as we love whisky and we were in the area visiting balmoral. Its a bit out the way on the back road from Balmoral to Ballater but once you get there, it a great little distillery with a cheery welcome, and a good little tour. Tasting at the end and the opportunity to receive a "passport" for more distilleries part of the classic malts collection. If you enjoy whisky and like a bit of history too, then this is the one for you.

This must be one of the Best Whisky's I've tasted and a great location, Top notch distillery, great tour and history lesson of the estate.

Nestled in comfort with the Balmoral Estate, the distillery has an air of grandeur about it; from the outside and continuing straight through to the heart of its visitor care.

A glass of their bread and butter golden nectar was available for nosing as soon as we entered, and the shop was well stocked wall to wall with whisky.

The very upmarket experience was a little too upmarket for my liking, but they are clearly not making out that landed-gentry are the only ones welcome. Very friendly place with a good asthetic appeal.

We visited Royal Lochnagar distillery after trying some of its namesake whiskey at a tasting and since it was close to our hotel.

We had a wonderful tour with a small group of 6. I enjoyed learning about the history of the distillery (though you can guess by its name and its proximity to Balmoral castle). Jim our guide was very informative and it was neat to go around room by room and see the working distillery and even smell from some of the casks! We also paid extra to try the reserve and it was an experience, even for non-scotch drinkers like me.

We did the £10 tour/tasting and it was wonderful. Jim was our guide, and he explained everything so clearly and well. We learned so much, and the tasting of their 12 yr. and reserve whisky at the end was a great finish!
