Extremely slow service, food acceptable, poor value for money, foreign staff unable to understand very well. Just awful and has been for at least 15 years......

“Average only”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2012

We stayed here in the Lodges as timeshare guests and had 2 meals in the Club House. The first was their Jubilee cream tea. We got 1 large scone, cream and strawberry jam, sandwiches, chocolate cake, frosted biscuits and a pot of tea. It was quite filling and substantial. However, the scones were a little dry and rough. We had another meal, this time lunch. Most unusually, they brought the starters and soups together with the main meals - we had not asked them to do this, and they did not attempt to take back the main course when we pointed this out. So we had to have everything on the table and with the mains getting cold while we had the starters. One of the party tried the stovies - it came as a lump with the oatcakes sticking out of the lump - most unappetizing, although it tasted a little better than it looked. The fish and chips and steak pie were OK.

“May Spa Break”

We dined here during a i night break at Craigendarroch, and we loved it. Food was 1st class, huge main course portions, and brilliant friendly service.

“A Poor Choice in Ballater”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2012

First, let's state that the Lodge accommodations at the Craigendarroch are very nice. Having said that, the adjoining Hilton hotel establishment leaves much to be desired. See other review about those details.

We dined at the Club House restaurant. The service was, at best, average. It seemed not so much due to the server's intentions or potential skill, but a lack of training. More to the point, the dinner was downright poor in all respects. Allegedly fresh fish was poorly prepared or was old. It was described as having a sweet chile sauce. It was out of a bottle and not flavorful. The vegetables and starters were pathetic. The decor and setting cry out for Improvement. The prices did not reflect the quality at all -- way too high You can do much better in Ballater. E.g., see Glen Lui Hotel Restaurant review.

“Worth the drive for a fantastic meal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2012

I recently took my good lady out from Aberdeen to Ballater for dinner at the Hilton Craigendarroch Hotel...and it was well worth the 45 minute drive!

Didn't know that Tuesday and Thurday was "Steak Night" at the club house restaurant, but that was a bonus, we both love our red meat. We were not disappointed either....

Our starters were Mushroom Soup with creme fraiche and duck liver pate, followed by two 6oz sirloin steaks, with a side of onion rings and sauces for both steaks. Add to this, 2 large glasses of wine and how much are you thinking..... £70..... £60......£55 even?? No.... £45

The set menu for the evening is £16 for 2 courses, £19 for 3, and supplements are £2.50 for side dishes and sauces

The quality of both meals was superb... 2 clean plates on both sides of the table.

Service was excellent as well, very polite, wine poured properly.... couldn't fault it.

Some areas are looking a wee bit tired, the toilets really need to be refurbed..... thats about all really

So, even though it was probably £10 in fuel to get from Aberdeen to ballater and back, it was worth every penny.... we'll be back soon
