Description: On the edge of the old Manchester to Oxford Road stands The Romper, an old coaching inn welcoming patrons through our doors for over 400 years. With its charming, whitewashed, slate-tiled exterior and rampant lion roaring above the door, The Romper is a former coaching inn, tucked away on a old country lane, on the edge of Altrincham. The Romper is also just a stone’s throw from Manchester Airport, making it a perfect stopover, whether you’re exploring the local area or about to take to the skies. Offering easy access to Cheshire’s lovely villages and towns, including Hale, and Wilmslow, as well as some of the county’s prettiest countryside, Sat in the lovely beer garden on a sunny day, surrounded by leafy lanes, it’s hard to believe how close you are to one of Europe’s busiest airports. In winter, when the log fire crackles in the hearth, and pints of cask ale are being poured under the old-beamed ceilings, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in a rustic county pub

A group of us have visited this pub every month over the last 6 months. It is owned by Chef and Brewer chain,so the food is of a reasonable standard, and they have deals for lunch and dinner times, with a fair choice. There is real ale always available, but the outstanding feature is the efficiency of the staff. If you are looking for somewhere to have a meal before flying off ,it is ideal. It is about 5mins drive from the airport, and easy to find from the JetParks parking.
If the weather is nice, there is a good outdoor eating area, but remember it is Manchester!

I took my wife's parents to the Manchester Concorde visitor centre and we were looking for somewhere to have an late lunch/early evening meal. As the pub/restaurant is right in front of you as you are leaving the visitor centre we decided to try it. Shame the sun wasn't shining there are plenty of seats outside. Andreus (from Guatamala) looked after us very well. We ordered Fish and Chips and Beer and Ale pie. I don't eat pies as a rule but this was absolutely fantastic. You should see the size of the Cod !!. Will go back here and would recommend !!!

We decided to have lunch at the Romper, having driven past it for years. We arrived just a little before midday (the time they start serving) and were told that they wouldn't take our order until 12.00. Quite why not was a mystery - they could have registered what we wanted and said that they would pass it on when the kitchen opened. Instead we and the others in a similar position arrived at the bar at exactly the same time. The bar staff were neither particularly friendly nor welcoming - they seemed to focus on those they knew. When the food came it was average pub fare, with rather limp lettuce leaves for a garnish. It was on the expensive side for what it was. The pub looked as though it could do with a good clean - our table was rather sticky. We won't be going back.

We dine at the Romper whenever we fly from Manchester, in fact it is the start of our holiday. We have always found food very good and reasonably priced. It is a lot cheaper that eating in the airport.
