A great performance of West Side Story - a young dynamic cast and some superb performances. Wonderful choreography. Comfortable seating with excellent rake to the seats so good visibility. Bar area was hot, crowded and failing to cope with the almost full house. The saddest part was that despite the fact this was a musical - with a live orchestra - there was no mention of the orchestra in the programme, there was insufficient room to place them in a "pit" - so they were playing completely backstage, and I suspect that the majority of the audience thought it was a recording of the musical score that they were hearing. The cast received their well deserved applause and appreciation from the audience but the musicians - without whom the show could not have been called a musical - went home with absolutely no recognition - a shame but a sign of the times for "live" musicians I fear.
