Visited here previously and really enjoyed the gardens, grounds and deer! Visited again yesterday and again enjoyed the aforementioned and the recreation of Dunham Massey as a military hospital - very interesting and well worth the visit. We joined the NT in March and have certainly reaped the benefits of being a member. The NT have improved the reception, café and entrance since our previous visit, nice to walk round the gift shop.

Most interesting re-creation of the Hospital that was set up in the House at outbreak of First World War. Lots of photographs & data sheets to explain the background.
Helpful staff & the usual excellent tea & scones!
Highly recommended!

I have never been here before they transferred the place back to the military hospital. I would have thought it wouldn't have been so interesting. As it is now it should stay! So much history- so much to absorb and read about . I could see the WW1 injured men sitting there and hoping that they wouldn't have to return to the front. It really is a lovely place. Being National trust it isn't cheap but you can spend a while there- the gardens are lovely this time of year. Yes- well worth a visit. Oh, the deer are lovely too!

Visited whilst on holiday and had a great day it is great the way that they have recreated the WW1 hospital atmosphere. The guides were very friendly and helpful. Good restaurant.

Our first visit to Dunham Massey was last year but when we heard they were recreating the house as the Stamford Military Hospital, another visit was on the cards.

As we went round from bed to bed there was a clip-board at the end of each bed which enabled you to find out what that patient's illness was and their progress. There were also tapes playing of breathing and coughing for effect. Whilst we were in this room there was a little re-enactment between a nurse and a patient, who was in bed, which was fascinating. It gave us a good insight into what life must have been like for the wounded sent here and for the doctors and nurses who cared for them.

Together with the kitchen and laundry areas to look around, the beautiful gardens, the water mill and of course the deer herd, we had a wonderful day out.

We are National Trust Members and this provides access to properties wherever we are in the country so we are never left wondering what to do!
