“Beer lovers paradise”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

Thoroughly enjoyed our short visit here. A choice of 8 different ales on a Friday lunch time cannot be sniffed at. Food was good with an interesting choice in their deli counter. Garden was well maintained and we received a warm and friendly welcome.

“Publican very rude about dogs !”
Reviewed 3 August 2013

We used to like this pub, and would go a fair bit and always recommended it to friends. HOWEVER, our last visit quite late one evening was with our two dogs. The rear garden was virtually empty and we decided to sit there. At a table near the gate were about 3 chaps having a drink. We assume one was the publican. Our dogs were about to be put on their lead, as the sign requested this, but they stepped about two feet through the gate only to be BARKED at by the publican who said 'Put you dogs on a lead'. No question of 'Would you mind ....', or 'Please ....'. Just his abrupt BARK. We shall not return. Pity.

“Unimpressed.”
Reviewed 20 May 2013

Certainly nothing like the pub in the photograph. We visit occasionally because there are good walks in that area. Old raftered country pub, stone floor, furnished with a wide variety of unmatching wooden tables and chairs and lacking much comfort. Rather cold today and some heating would have been welcome. A selection of interesting cask beers but the food is incidental and ameteurish offering a cabinet of cold fare with a choice of one of three salads (carrott, pasta or potato).

“Good basic food”
Reviewed 15 April 2013

This pub has recently had a bit of a facelift returning to the more distinct bar and restaurant areas it had a few years ago. The menu has been updated but remains very much a pub menu with pies, fish and chips and all the usual favourites. Not the most gourmet pub in the area but good value for money.
