I've always loved the canteen style simplicity and great food at Lahore just off Commercial Road in the East End. The Karahi Express provides a similar dinning experience; no airs and graces just loads of great tasting, authentic Indian food but unlike Lahore, it's licensed.
We were the only Europeans eating in a full restaurant, late on a saturday evening.
Starters were a huge, shared plate of tandoori specialities - the lamb chops and tikka were excellent. We also had some mutta aloo, rice, sag and a prawn dish, all of which were tasty and very spicy.
All in all, the Karahi Express is a great alternative to a traditional curry house and provides good quality food and excellent value for money.

The restaurant doesn't go for the typical traditional Indian restaurant look, but instead has a fairly contemporary interior. The most noticeable feature is the kitchen, which is located within a glass box area at the front of the restaurant as you enter, so that you can see everything being cooked.
I've never been here to eat in, but regularly get takeaway. Service can seem a bit hectic, as you have to order by the till, which seems to be one of the busiest areas of the restaurant.
All the food I have had from there is great & they are happy to alter how spicy it is to suit your taste, as everything is cooked from fresh there.
Not the cheapest place for takeaway, but definitely one of the best.
Whenever I've visited on a Friday night, there never seems to be a spare seat, so make sure you book if you are planning on going when its likely to be a busy time.
