We have stayed many times at this classic and very relaxing hotel and after a break of several years it is good to see that it has lost none of its charm and traditional English values.
Tucked away from the main drag of Sidmouth, situated in its own matures landscape it is an ideal relaxing base from which to explore the area or just spend some time in this very picturesque past of the country.
Martin and Julie Fisher have put a lot of effort into improving the hotel and its facilities over the years. The food was some of the best ever and the whole weekend was very pleasurable and memorable.
We both look forward to returning to the Hunters Moon in in years to come.

Have stayed many times in this wonderful hotel. The staff are very efficient and will always look after you. Food is good and plenty of it. For us the location is perfect for walking and hiking. Yes the age group is over 65 (us being in our 40's) and we do spend alot of the day outdoors but it is quite refreshing to speak to the older generation and learn and talk about their lives.

As indicated in other reviews, this is an excellent hotel geared towards older visitors – wonderful location, splendid food, and efficient service. But I wonder if it’s excessively “resting on its laurels” and not looking out for (slowly) changing tastes.

A comments-questionnaire is desirable nowadays. And why is dinner service so rapid – like an American diner, whose success against competitors is measured by speed of turn-round? The high quality of the food deserves a more up-market style of service.

This hotel is not cheap but it is very comfortable and the food is good, (excellent breakfast) The grounds are beautiful and well-tended and it is in a very quiet position. The staff in the dining-room were delightful and the service was very good. Yes, at 61 I felt that I was one of the youngest there, but don't let that put you off. There are probably so few reports on this website because of that.

This was our 5th stay at this Hotel. The exterior is attractive and situated in large ,quiet pleasant grounds.Gates from the gardens lead in one direction to the town which is a 10 minute walk and another 10 at the most to the lovely seafront promenade. The other gate leads to the Byes which is an area of woodland with a stream running through its midst. The town has many small individual shops,a cinema and a theatre. Many pleasant walks can be enjoyed along the coastal paths and the whole area is very picturesque and one feels safe walking around in the evenings..
The lounge and dining room look nice and the bedrooms in the new wing are modern and good value for money. All the rooms are gradually being renovated and everywhere is clean. At mid day weather permitting one can enjoy a snack sitting in the garden and in the evening there is both an internal and external bar.The evening menu is four courses with choices and everything we ate was appetizing.Coffee is usually served in the lounge .Service is quick, efficient and the staff are pleasant and there is an atmosphere of old fashioned charm. This hotel is family owned.
What I like most about the hotel is the peaceful aspect and the relaxed atmosphere. What I liked least was the busy decor in some of the older bedrooms but they are all of good size and I would still stay in one of those if needs be.

The clientele may be in their later years but I would much rather this than the all too-common experience of ghastly screaming brats running about all over the place, and thankfully, there were none of these to be seen. The location is tranquil, away from the hubbub of the seafront, although a pleasant stroll through the Byes, along the river, takes you there before you know it. The food, both breakfast and dinner, is cooked to perfection, there is enough of it with four courses at dinner, and the menu changes daily. I can't recommend it enough, and we would definitely return ..... in fact, I can't wait!

This is the second time that we have stayed in this hotel. The food is excellent but the average age in the restaurant is about 60plus and everyone seems to eat very early and then retire. On saying that the hotel is currently having an upgrade which to be fair is much needed, the rooms are very old fashioned and the bathrooms certainly not luxurious but are clean. The gardens are super and parking fine. Sidmouth itself is but a few minutes walk and makes this a good location to stay. Guy on the reception very friendly but oh boy the women needs to take a course on customer service, she did not smile once. The lounge area though is large, airy, clean with lovely flowers and magazines etc to read.
