Lovely apartment with spectacular views. Enjoyed the friendly facilities of Sidmouth ( really helpful Tourist information bureau) Two breathtaking walks: Budleigh to Sidmouth and Sidmouth to Otterton and back. Highly recommend

“Lovely apartment with relaxing views and close to all amenities.”
Reviewed 25 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

The apartment was clean and cosy, with a lovely view over the sea and the sound of gentle lapping. All amenities were within walking distance and a great location from which to see the surrounding coastal towns.

“Fabulous”
Reviewed 9 February 2015 for a stay in August 2014

We loved it here!. It was clean and cosy, with some home comforts from the owners. The most stunning views, that kept us occupied for hours. It was great to go swimming and be able to walk over the road to all our amenities. Parking was no problem, we parked out the back to un load and then found a road nearby that had no restrictions. The sound of the sea on the pebbles was so relaxing, I really did not want to leave.

“A good place to relax and unwind”

We stayed for 3 nights at The Lookout. Its position on the sea front allows you to relax to the sound of the sea as it washes over the shingle.
The apartment living area is compact but light and cosy. It is well equipped for those who wish to cook. For self catering options you have good choices with a number of restaurants in walking distance or make use of the excellent local butcher in Church Street ,fresh produce from the market and locally caught fish from the fishmonger in The Ham.
The apartment is warm and the beds are very comfortable ensuring nights of good quality sleep.
Thoughful extras left by the owner included a much appreciated cream tea and wine along with the use of binoculars beach chairs and picnic hampers. Luckily we didn't need to use the umbrellas. A great place to relax and unwind.

“great location but some issues”

Compact appartment in ideal location on the seafront, nice to be able to throw open the large sash window & hear the sea. Our initial impressions were of a clean & tidy holiday home, the bed linen was fresh & clean, & crockery & utensils clean. However we soon noticed that in some places it wasn't very clean, there was a lot of thick dust on the window sills & under the tv on the books & dvds there. The kettle had thick brown scale, I bought descaler & it came up as good as new. In the bathroom there was a filthy toilet brush & broken loo roll holder. The kitchen area is quite small, but we ate out most of the time or just had ready meals we could cook in the oven. There is no laundry facilities, so I would think we would have had to find a launderette if we were there for longer than a week. We tried to use the hoover supplied to tidy up before we left, but the bag was full, so not much use. There is also no wifi, but we went along to Dukes for a coffee in the morning to check our emails. A strange thing happened halfway through our stay, when we had been out for the day we returned to find a cushion which was on the floor by the wardrobe was on the bed. Someone had been in the appartment while we were out. We contacted the owner on our return home, who said it was someone from the next door hotel coming in to read a meter, & they should have left a note to say they wanted to come in. it did leave us feeling unsettled, I would expect someone to come in if it was a hotel room, but not in a holiday let, as I consider it to be my home for the time I am there, unless notified in advance for linen changes.
We paid £25 for a weekly parking ticket in the car park at the rear, only to find we could only park there for 4 hours (before 6pm), fortunately we were out most days, so were ok to park there overnight, & the day we spent in Sidmouth we managed to find a space on the seafront. There were not many spaces free on the seafront during our stay. Apparently the weekly ticket allows 24 hour parking in a car park which is by Conaught Gardens about half a mile away.
Despite the negatives we enjoyed our break, we would come back to Sidmouth, we love it, but not to this accommodation, sorry.

Management Response

Thank you for your review, we always appreciate feedback from our guests, for without being made aware of such issues we would not be able to make the necessary changes. We have made the company who are responsible for cleaning the apartment aware of the issues raised. We have also discussed with the adjacent hotel management the issue of accessing the apartment. We have been assured that both issues will be addressed and rectified accordingly.
Thank you once again for taking the time to let us know.
Kind Regards.

“Lovely apartment in an ideal position”

Panoramic sea views from large windows directly onto seafront. All you need to self cater. Nice welcome pack. Couple small housekeeping problems but soon sorted out by owner who was available whenever called and very pleasant to speak to. Enjoyed our week very much.
However, many stairs to climb to apartment which from rear door involved a long metal outdoor staircase. No shower, only bath with hand held shower head. Otherwise 10/10.

Thank you for the positive review and so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. You may also be pleased to know that the ground floor sea front apartment `Esplanade' is now available for holiday lets, thus avoiding the need to climb the stairs.

“A wonderful place to stay”

The apartment is lovely and the owner is very welcoming and friendly. Very cosy & comfortable and very well equipped. The views from the window are stunning (we often ignored the tv & just sat looking out). The sea put on a spectacular show for us on occasion. We were also able to watch the Boxing day swim from our window - got the best view. Sidmouth itself is a real gem, with lovely walks in and around the town. Good pubs and restaurants to choose from. It was particularly nice to find a place that still has independent shops and stores, with real traditional customer care. The Town has a lovely community feel and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back.
