“Lovely winter weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2014

We stayed in this hotel for a weekend at the end of February, it had everything we needed for a relaxing break. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent and we look forward to trying the restaurant when we stay again. Free parking is limited, the smaller your vehicle, the better. Great location overlooking the beach, lovely views of the bay and close to the coastal path for walks. Good unique shops in town, cinema and swimming pool a short walk away.

Room Tip: Passing cars and waves on the beach could be heard in our room overlooking the beach at the front of...

treated to a surprise night away with the wife... we travelled a short way to Sidmouth, and the Bedford Hotel, on a chilly March Saturday evening.
On arrival found the parking out the back for just six cars a little tight to say the least but managed to squeeze in just!
Inside the hotel, its clean and has recently been renovated (slight smell of fresh paint) for the coming season, booked in by the friendly receptionist, and advised a complimentary tea or coffee was available at the bar should we like one, once we had checked into our room.
Room 11, was ours a family room, double bed and a spare full size single, with ensuite facilities... this is on the side of the building, with a good sea view... be aware this is an older building, and has single glazed sash windows... these mean that you can hear the noise from outside, and also you get a breeze through... however quality curtains, and warm heating meant we were certainly not cold!
We had pre-booked dinner, a choice of two started, Calamari, or Mushrooms, then soup, followed by main choice, I had the braised liver which was excellent... a healthy choice of desserts, or cheese, followed by, coffee which we chose to take in one of the drawing/sitting rooms...
The hotel had several groups of guests, and the Pynes Bar had a healthy base of customers, at the bar, and dining in the restaurant...
A comfortable nights sleep, good clean room... and although heard the occasional car passing, and the sounds of the crashing waves, we were not disturbed from the bar.
Sunday breakfast, a good selection of cereals, pastries, fruit juices, a freshly cooked full English, and toast, then tea or coffee...
All in all a great hotel to stay in, friendly staff, seaside hotels how they should be, traditional, but with modern service... only one thing I would have liked would have been Wifi, but as we were only staying the one night it wasn't an issue.

It was so good, I used the hotel a second time when I was on business in the area. Checked in late - but everything was ready and easily organised. I was even given the wifi info without needing to ask. As always, beer perfect. Room - wonderful. I had asked for a sea view and there it was, as good as last time. Bathroom, clean with lovely hot shower. Bed comfy.

Breakfast was great with a sea view. Friendly staff.

I need to be in the area in June and I will definitely use the hotel again.

Enjoyed my stay at this hotel....good points
1. Parking available (first come basis)
2. Lovely sea view from nicely refurbished single bedroom
3. Staff were lovely, warm welcome from reception
4. Excellent breakfast

Bad points
1. No wifi in room, available on the ground floor only
2. The beds are cheap, and wobbly
3. Check out is at 10.30 and I think this is a little too early!

First visit to Bedford Hotel and will certainly stay again if we revisit Sidmouth. Lovely, warm dual aspect room, friendly, efficient and very helpful staff. Very good dinner in their Pynes restaurant and excellent breakfast in hotel dining room.

Room Tip: Room 12 on first floor is dual aspect.

I stayed for just one night but had also stayed previously in 2012 and was very pleased to return.
There is everything to praise the Bedford and its staff for from the moment I stepped over the threshold. A friendly, efficient warm welcome from Susan, and Trevor who showed me my room and served complimentary tea and cake. Smallish room but with a sea view and very comfortable bed!
As a single person it is a pleasure not to be stung by a supplement due to the lack of single rooms being available.
Breakfast was excellent, a good choice offered and served piping hot. Just wish I could have stayed longer but will return,
