I stayed here recently with my elderly parents. We all found the service & attention to detail throughout our stay was outstanding. My parents had a well proportioned room with a walk-in shower. This was greatly appreciated as they both have mobility problems. I had a good sized single room with a sea view. We will all be returning to this family run hotel. All the staff were a pleasure to know & extremely helpful.

The staff here are great, from the reception at the start of our holiday to the service staff throughout the hotel, helpful and very pleasant. Our room was of a good size with a large bed good bathroom and all very clean but the bonus was the balcony we could sit out on looking towards the beach and sea fabulous view. Breakfasts were good and nicely presented, we dined in the hotel a few times and the curry night was good but the pie night was the best. This hotel is well run and we enjoyed our time there very much definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a balcony room for the view.

Stayed for 2 nights in early June 2014 - my wife and I in a double at front with balcony overlooking the sea. A friend had a single at front too. This is a family run hotel for many years and it shows the attention to guests that is given in all aspects. On arrival we were helped with luggage and offered free tea and biscuits in the lounge. Rooms have been recently decorated tastefully and the overall standard for a hotel of over 100 years old with many modifications and extensions is fine - yes you do have to walk along corridors, around corners and up and down stairs here and there, through many heavy fire doors but the accommodation is good and the price represents very good value. I would not recommend this hotel for less able-bodied persons - too many steps and twists and turns and doors. Bathrooms show their age a bit but are clean and functional. Restaurant is traditional English with good menu and good food. Staff are attentive. Location is excellent - we thought it would be noisy with traffic at a busy corner on the seafront but this was not so. Hotel has a couple of parking spaces around the back which, if one is available, saves money and difficulty parking in a public car park.

Room Tip: If are staying here it makes sense to pay for a room overlooking the sea - the cost is higher but it...

Back from our latest weekend break in Devon. As usual the Bedford hotel and all the staff cannot be faulted.
Most of the staff are like friends now, from reception, bar and waiting staff, all are polite and friendly.
Our meal in Pynes on Friday night was excellent. Great mussels (as always) and superb scallops on the menu.

Room Tip: Favourite 2 rooms of ours. Number 23 and 18. Great Seaview. Least favourite number 7 as the floor i...

We have just returned from another lovely break in Sidmouth at the family run Bedford Hotel, which is perfectly situated right on the front. Everyone goes out of their way to welcome guests, but special mention must be made of Debbie on reception. We will be back very soon!

Room Tip: Room 23 has great views of the beach front.
