This cafe/restaurant is so iconic to Sidmouth and is in the most beautiful location. We frequent it regularly and mostly find it to be a friendly, cosy atmosphere. However, our criticism recently is as follows: on Sunday 15 December - a typically rainy and wintry afternoon, we were longing for a pot of tea and some delicious Clock Tower cakes. It was exactly 4pm and we had raced across country from Killerton to get to the cafe in time. Clock Tower is meant to stay open till 5pm, however the place was in semi-darkness and the 2 members of staff on duty were in the throes of packing up. As soon as we entered the cafe, they told us that they were closed because it had been 'too quiet'. We and another couple were therefore turned away and were most disappointed. I told the lady in charge that on days like this - cold and rainy - even if they were quiet, it was when you most wanted a hot drink and food.
