Came here to celebrate a friends birthday. Arrived early so we could enjoy the relaxing comfort of the lounge and have morning coffee. The flowers everywhere were beautiful, the sun shone in from the sea view and it was so relaxing.
Coffee was nice, lunch was lovely (maybe not perfect) but the whole atmosphere meant we will return. Would love to stay the night.

The first 3 requisites of a really good afternoon tea experience are real tea (not tea bags), a tablecloth and fine china. The Victoria did not offer any of these. We had a dining table (of sorts) with arm chairs instead of dining chairs. There was no table cloth or even table mats, dining table was not big enough to accommodate the cake stands for 4 people, service was mediocre. Crockery was heavy white cups and saucers and we were not offered a top-up of tea which is accepted practice with all afternoon teas we have been to before. We were offered a choice of only egg OR cucumbers sandwiches but opted to pay extra for more exciting filings. The scones are also preferable served warn, ours were cold. The teapots were battered stainless steel. When we had asked about booking for a Sunday afternoon we were told there was no need to book, just turn up, that should have started alarm bells ringing. There was only one other couple having afternoon tea so clearly not a very popular place. Altogether a very disappointing experience.

We booked very last minute as we all needed a 'stop the world' couple of days.
It is a very traditional establishment, set back from the seafront with wonderful views.
The main clientele are retired and as such it can feel a little like a rest home at times. I wonder what the hotel are doing to encourage the next generation of guests? The decor is beautifully maintained albeit very 1980's style. Think swags and tails everywhere.
The staff are delightful and always aim to please.
Our main gripe as mentioned in previous reviews, is £42 for a table d'hote dinner. These prices are pushing 5* Michelin menus of which this is not.
The food is best described as safe, cruise line food. Really nothing spectacular and I would guess most people agree as the restaurant was lucky to have 30 eating whilst we were there.
We would return as we were very comfortable, but probably on a bed and breakfast basis.

...just how a traditional hotel should be. Superbly clean all thru, entrance to bathroom. Had a sea view room, deluxe with either twin beds or as we had it, zipped. Staff forgot the first night and didn't compensate for us sliding down the centre of the two beds...we laughed it off! Food was fantastic..several courses and always different each night. Live band played upbeat classical tempos one night and the dining room was a buzz....high tea and drinkies in the lounges were beautifully grown up. I was glad when we went that there were no children...but totally understand its a welcoming family hotel. No one who loves tradition would be disappointed...the hotel family care and attend any request without question....worth the upgrade of room to watch the sun set and moon over the sea...the sunrise was one to remember for life....go once...I did...and am returning!! Oh...by the way...the pool is small, jacuzzi tiny and sauna a delight for two....

Room Tip: Sea views are worth every penny!!!

We have visited this hotel many times and have never been disappointed. The staff are always efficient and friendly and it is such a calming and relaxing place. Dressing for dinner is a nice touch and adds to the ambience and overall high standards of the hotel. Since our previous visit my wife has developed a number of food allergies, a simple e-mail a few days before and the chef created a special menu for her. They even typed it up for her as a special menu card. This is above and beyond and a brilliant touch. We are looking forward to next years visit already.

Room Tip: We stayed in a state room with sea view and balcony - Rooms 106 & 107 are best as they are in the middle. More expensive but worth it. Complimentary water, flowers, fruit and chocolates on arrival and they even turn down your bed at night leaving a chocolate on the pillows!

Thank you for your review of the Victoria Hotel. It is always good to hear from our returning guests how much they still enjoy staying with us.

It was very pleasing to read that you were able to relax and unwind and that we have maintained our high standards, and we were more than happy to help with regards to your wife’s dietary requirements.

Thank you again for taking the time to write your review and we all look forward to welcoming you both back again next year.
