“Small but perfectly formed”
Reviewed 31 August 2014 via mobile

Picked at random from restaurants on the sea front cos of the decor, it turned out to be a very good choice. Food was fantastic, with the sea bass with bean cassoulet probably being the pick of the dishes. Staff very friendly and helpful, but the service was very slow, even the ice cream seemed to take an age. Overall worth it for the quality of the food.

“Recommended by our B&B, but not very helpful.”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

Following a recommendation from our B&B, we went in and asked if there was a table for two available in the early evening. The answer was "No", but the staff could have been a little more friendly, or possibly better organised, because both when we went in and when we passed about 90 mins later there were still unoccupied tables!
The two stars is because of the welcome, rather than the food which we did not get to. Had the staff been more helpful, we may have booked for the following evening. Better staff training required?

“So good, we went twice!”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

We enjoyed the food so much we visited twice during our stay in Sidmouth....and we weren't the only ones as we recognized others who were doing the same!

Food was amazing - great flavours, freshly cooked, well presented but unpretentious. I had a beetroot risotto one night and a burger the other. The burger was huge but was undoubtedly the best I've ever eaten (and without wanting to sound like a fat, burger crazed maniac.....I've eaten a LOT of burgers!) It came with lots of chips, some really nice slaw and caramelized onions. My other half had mackerel one night and mussels the other and enjoyed both. The mussels in particular were lovely and served with heaps of bread and chips. We had a white chocolate creme brulee for pud which was very tasty too.

We felt the food was very well priced for the quality and portion size.

Service was good - very friendly staff. A liiiittle bit of a wait to collect plates and take drinks orders but in a busy restaurant you kind of expect that. Atmosphere was good - relaxed and laid back. Decor was cute with little sage plants in coffee tins, wood tables, candle lights. Looks out to sea and is on the seafront promenade. Quite a buzz around the place too - we heard a few people talking about the pea green boat in our hotel and around Sidmouth.

Inside the restaurant is quite small - only 12 tables perhaps. Although we walked straight in and got a table both times, we saw a lot of people get turned away so it's a good idea to book, especially if you're in a larger party than 2!

Would definitely recommend and we'll return if we're ever in Sidmouth again!

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

This restaurant is in a great location, right on the sea front. It is relatively small, but has a nice atmosphere. The food quality, particularly the fish, is excellent, although the burgers are brilliant too. On the night we visited the service was outstanding, the young waiter and waitresses doing a really good job, which would not be out of place in a five star restaurant. We were in Sidmouth for four nights, and ate at a number of places, and this was our favourite restaurant in terms of food quality. Thoroughly recommended.
