“TOWN CENTRE PUB”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

One side of the building is the bar and at the other is a very large restaurant area. The bar is nothing special but OK for a drink. The restaurant is well fitted out and clean. Beer and food prices are on the high side. Staff are friendly and service is good. Food is OK. The Black Horse Inn did not quite click with us, not sure why. Perhaps the restaurant area lacked atmosphere and the pub feel was missing. We called early evening and it was not very busy, which may have been the problem. That said it does appear to get quite busy at times so a lot of people must like it.

“Good Pub Grub”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

We ate here on a Sunday evening having popped in during the day to make sure they were still serving food. The pub has two entrances one side the public bar and on the other the restaurant which has two levels. The menu was normal pub food with a good variety at reasonable prices. you order at the bar and the food is brought to your table. The staff were very good though a bit stressed as the restaurant was busy and so was the public bar as there was a karaoke evening in full swing!! We ordered scampi and chips and liver, bacon and onions with mashed potato, huge portions which went down well! We ordered cheese and biscuits which didn't arrive until my husband enquired and then the chef brought it to us with many apologies - we asked for more biscuits as there was loads of cheese and only 4 biscuits!! The stilton was amazing but the chedder and brie just normal but we didn't expect anything amazing for less than £5. All in all would recommend particularly if you have kids.

“Excellent food, in a relaxed setting.”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

We were surprised to read some negative reviews when we logged in to make our own comments. We chose this pub at random and took a chance as we usually do. We could find no one aspect of our experience to criticise. The food was excellent, served piping hot, well presented and well cooked. I had one of the best beef and ale pies I have had in a pub, and my wife was delighted by the liver and bacon. I have noted on previous reviews that liver is not easy to cook just right, but the chef nailed it last night. The staff were friendly and efficient, and gave us a warm welcome. We dine early, but many tables were taken and there was a table set out and reserved for 16, so it appeared it was going to be busier. There was plenty of room between the tables and it felt light and airy rather than intimate and cosy. The price was what you would expcet to pay in a high street pub and gave good value for money. There was a good selection to choose form on the menue and a specials board.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and will probably go back again later in the week,
