Gorgeous locally caught fish. Scallops melted in your mouth. Service was really good. All in all a great evening and fabulous meal.

“The Word 'Excellent' Does Not do this Restaurant Justice”

Neil the Chef Patron always excels with his menu. As regular visitors to Sidmouth I can honestly say this is the best restaurant in the area for seafood.Last week we enjoyed roast cod fillet on garlic mash potato with a tomato dressing which was simply fantastic but the sea bass fillet on a seafood risotto is equally as good. Jumbo prawns and sardines as starters just great. Reasonably priced house wine and a 20% discount Tuesday to Thursday if you order before 7pm is an offer not to be missed. We have always found the staff to be friendly, welcoming and efficient, making it an all round super dining out experience especially if you are celebrating some special event, where you need it to be guaranteed great.Seafood menus do not come better than this

“So consistently first class”

There are many good reasons to spend time in Sidmouth - the chance to eat scallops cooked by Neil is certainly one of them!
We have visited over many years and have never been disappointed. Many others have said the same, but here are just a few further points.
For wine lovers; this is a "proper" restaurant; here the house wines are sensibly priced and perfectly chosen to complement the cuisine on offer, just what house wines should be. I am sure the posher ones are great, but we have never yet felt the need. This time the house Sauvignon Blanc was just right as aperitif and through to the main course. Beautiful plump sardines to start, just cooked to perfection so the fresh sweetness of the fish was still there to enjoy. My favourite scallops followed - great as ever. For desert we opted for poached plums; another deceptively simple dish but delicately spiced and just sweetened enough so that the full flavour of the ripe fruit came through, We will be back - many times, I hope!

“Best Dining Experience at this Price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 November 2013

My good lady and I visited Sidmouth one week ago and visited Neil's Restaurant on a Friday evening. When finished we booked for the next evening even though we only had two full days in Sidmouth - Neil's is that good! Over the two nights we ate there we had a variation of food and drink from Squid and Melon with Sorbet starters, to Seabass, Hake and Duck mains with well cooked vegetables and desserts of Flaming Lemon Brulee and Profiteroles. All washed down with whatever wine we selected.
As we were on a weekend break we hoped for a relaxed atmosphere without being too formal and this Neil's is. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the bonus is the food is excellent. We live south of London and regularly eat at similar prices to Neil's Restaurant. None of them provide a dining experience anywhere near equal to Neil's.
To the people of Sidmouth you are very, very lucky! To anyone visiting Sidmouth my advice is go to Neil's! I will be very surprised if you are disappointed.

“chef deserves better staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

2nd time my wife and I had eaten here, the first time was great ,welcomed warmly and a really well cooked meal, however visiting a year later sees the chef gallantly working hard but let down by staff who seemed put out by the fact we didn't want any alcohol-some people don't drink wine-and watching the young waitress constantly touching her nose piercing and coming out the kitchen chewing on whatever she was eating in there was very unprofessional.when we didn't want coffee or desert- the haughty " we'll leave you to finish your water then" seemed churlish on a bill which was £60.
