We decided to spend a couple of days in Devon and picked the Groveside mainly on where it was. However on arrival we discovered that location isn't everything, what we got was beyond our expectations.
Firstly there was the welcome pot of tea and home made cake served in the summerhouse in the garden - much better than the make it in your room we had been anticipating.
Then there was the room - what a view! Although if you have the top room at the back remember to close the curtains / blinds at night as the sun rises over Salcombe Hill and comes straight into the room!
After that it was all the extras that made it so much more. There was not just a goody bag of toiletries (just like in posh hotels) but also Lin's Favourite Oh No bag - full of things you might have forgotten. We also had access to extra milk (some of it fresh as opposed to those little plastic pots) for when you need more than the two pots each you get elsewhere.
Breakfast was a joy - choice of buffet style cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc and / or cooked. But even that was not straightforward; if you wanted specials such as kippers or fresh porridge all you had to do was let Lin know the night before - via the whiteboard in the hall - and hey presto!
You can come and go as you wish - we had an afternoon nap in our room - and can use the communal areas both indoors and out without feeling awkward.
Alan and Lin were great hosts and made us feel really welcome. And we're not alone in this opinion - the visitors book sums it up with comments like "Great return visit", and "Lovely to be back." So overall an excellent find.
