“Perfectly Placed or Perfect Place?”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

We decided to spend a couple of days in Devon and picked the Groveside mainly on where it was. However on arrival we discovered that location isn't everything, what we got was beyond our expectations.
Firstly there was the welcome pot of tea and home made cake served in the summerhouse in the garden - much better than the make it in your room we had been anticipating.
Then there was the room - what a view! Although if you have the top room at the back remember to close the curtains / blinds at night as the sun rises over Salcombe Hill and comes straight into the room!
After that it was all the extras that made it so much more. There was not just a goody bag of toiletries (just like in posh hotels) but also Lin's Favourite Oh No bag - full of things you might have forgotten. We also had access to extra milk (some of it fresh as opposed to those little plastic pots) for when you need more than the two pots each you get elsewhere.
Breakfast was a joy - choice of buffet style cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc and / or cooked. But even that was not straightforward; if you wanted specials such as kippers or fresh porridge all you had to do was let Lin know the night before - via the whiteboard in the hall - and hey presto!
You can come and go as you wish - we had an afternoon nap in our room - and can use the communal areas both indoors and out without feeling awkward.
Alan and Lin were great hosts and made us feel really welcome. And we're not alone in this opinion - the visitors book sums it up with comments like "Great return visit", and "Lovely to be back." So overall an excellent find.

When it comes to B&B's they don't come much better than the Groveside....despite arriving before midday (with the intention of asking whether we could leave the car there before strolling into Sidmouth) we were told our room was ready. The welcome was very friendly and this remained throughout are stay. The breakfast is good and the garden is a delight to sit in on a nice summer's eve. The attention to detail is second to none here....from the "oh no" bag to one evening sitting in the summerhouse enjoying a glass of wine when we got offered some pistachio nuts to munch on.....it's the little touches that make the difference. If we'd return to Sidmouth we would not hesitate to use this B&B again.

We enjoyed another perfect stay at The Groveside in May.
Once again we were given the warmest welcome by Alan and Lin. Our week in Sidmouth is made perfect when we stay at The Groveside and their faultless attention to detail. Our room is very comfortable, well equipped and the level of cleanliness is of a high standard, the décor is lovely. The breakfast is cooked perfectly and is delicious, a perfect start to the day. We shall definitely be back next year with Mum, Dad and J.
This guest house comes highly recommended.

This is a friendly B&B in Sidmouth’s main drag it’s literally 5 minutes from the sea but far enough to be quiet and peaceful. The breakfast is good and the rooms are well equipped with everything you would expect in a B&B and more wait till you see the ‘Oh no bag’ I’ll leave that as a surprise.

Room Tip: The room at the back of the house (No 1) is the quietest

Another wonderful Donkey week made special once again by the Groveside. Lin and Alan are such a lovely couple and everything was in place to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We were met with delicious home made scones and orders were taken for breakfasts which set you up for the day. Rooms are very comfortable and scrupulously clean and nothing left to chance - we even had an "Oh No" bag in our rooms - if you want to know what that entails - book in at the Groveside!! We had a perfect week and how do you improve on perfection. Thank you Lin, Alan, William and Lucy.

My first visit there and a great feeling after entering the place. Owners have welcomed us personally and created immediately atmosphere as being at home. Great food (championship in preparing breakfasts!). Rooms clean and well furnished. Good WiFi access.Convenient localization - close to the beach and city center. I recommend to go there.
