“Nice Hotel!”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

A very comfortable old style hotel. Staff very attentive, especially in the dining room. Absolutely no waiting for food!! We booked a standard room, so we were expecting it to be one that hadn't been refurbished. Having said that there was a huge bed, with lovely white bed linen. Fluffy white towels and a sea view. The room was a little tired but this was reflected in the price. We had the 3 course evening meal and both of our meals were fabulous. Breakfast was equally good.

We stayed one night in December and we're suitably surprised at the quality of the stay. The hotel looks a little tired from the outside but the lobby is elegantly maintained and the staff very welcoming.

The lift is a red one metre square cell so not ideal if you have luggage (or claustrophobia!) so we took the stairs to a room on the second floor.
Having booked last minute we weren't expecting much but were greeted with a front facing room with a wonderful view over the town and coast. The bed was comfy and the bathroom clean and tidy.
Our stay was topped off with a well cooked and presented full English breakfast - only complaint being the few and far between baked beans!
Would recommend.

We were very surprised that friends asked to meet us in the Harbour Westcliffe Hotel for a coffee. Perhaps it was because it had parking and there was a large public car park close by. We arrived a bit early and the atmosphere, furnishings and décor of the lounge conjured up an image of the sitting room in an old people’s home or the lounge in a Fawlty Tower’s hotel. This was compounded by the sight of a customer asleep at a table. I was also shocked to discover that a one shot Americano was priced at £2.75. The 4 of us ended up sharing a cafetiere and again this was not cheap at £9.80. I may not have minded so much if there had been redeeming features such as view of The Hanging Gardens of Babylon or herds of wildebeest could be seen from the window, perhaps even a glimpse of the beach and the sea.

The room price seems expensive

I do not think that we will be back.

Comfortable and elegant, courteous staff. Excellent position with superb views. A short along the seafront to town. Across the way to the cliff top gardens and superb tea room. Currently the hotel is having building work but it did not detract from our comfort at all. The food is superb as is the choice.

Room Tip: Request a sea view

We stayed here recently and picked up a late availability room for a DBB package which was excellent value. Evening meal was delicious and there was a good choice of breakfast dishes (ordered from the waiter). Just one niggle, I would have liked some cold meat and cheese on the breakfast buffet. We had an unrenovated (but quite acceptable), enormous room with a beautiful sea view and very comfy 6 ft bed and large bathroom. Liked the White Company toiletries. We've stayed at another hotel in this group and I'm confident when renovations are complete it will be superb and look forward to trying it again then. I probably would have been put off staying here by the reviews if I hadn't had previous experience of the group and decided it was unlikely to be a disaster.

Room Tip: aim for a sea view and ask how much it would be to upgrade to superior room if taking a late availab...

We have just arrived home after a great weekend at the Sidmouth Harbour hotel and what great value for money! The hotel was very comfortable and the staff were to say the least very attentive.
I am the chairman and the social secretary of a local classic car club and arrived at the hotel on Friday as part of a party of fourteen people complete with our old cars to find bollards all over the car park but the great part of this was the bollards were put there to reserve the best parking spaces for us. The great service went on from there and didn't stop for the whole weekend. Our room was huge and very well equipped with a large bath and a separate shower and six foot wide bed and a sea view, it was also spotlessly clean. The table d'hote menu which was part of our package was excellent and varied and the food was excellent. At least two of the couples in our group are going to book here again in the near future, we will certainly be back.

Room Tip: Our room was number 9 and was a standard room which was excellent, yu can however have a superior ro...
