The Belmont Hotel provides the level of service which leaves you totally relaxed and refreshed. Service is prompt and professional amidst well maintained and well furnished accommodation. Parking is ample and convenient with ready help with luggage from the concierge service if required.

The location of the hotel is superb, with excellent sea views across an uncluttered promenade, close to lovely gardens at the quiet end of the town. The town itself is thriving; a rareity for an English sea-side resort. You can even watch the cricket match at the adjoining Sidmouth cricket club grounds from the terrace, helpfully protected from those occasional 6's by a mesh net.

The price for dinner bed and breakfast is what you would expect for the location and level of service. The bar and restaurant service is emaculate with silver service at dinner and an opportunity for the male guest to wear that tie and jacket that you always pack. The menu is elegant and the food is of good quality.

With very pleasant and helpful staff - what else could you ask for - other than good weather, which we had! We will certainly return for another "escape" from the cut and thrust of daily life.

Room Tip: A room at the front of the hotel with a balcony is ideal, which will give you great sea views and th...

We have just returned from a stay at this hotel as a family of four. The location of the hotel is excellent and it was most pleasant on a sunny evening to sit outside and admire the seaview.
The facilities at this hotel are very limited but it does have the option for guests to be able to use the pools at the adjacent Victoria Hotel, where the outside pool was great but the indoor one was in need of an update and the spa / sauna area needs a complete overhaul..afterall it has carpet down which was most unhygienic. And no gym between the two sites either which for the star rating and the price was a bit of a let down if you like to keep in shape.
The room we had at the Belmont had recently been redecorated and was nicely furnished with a good quality bed. More attention could be paid to the cleaning of it though. There is a turn down service which we thought was a nice touch.
We ate at the Belmont hotel and the dining experience was like a cross between the 1970`s and an episode of Downton Abbey. The so called air conditioned restaurant was baking hot and they still insist on the tie and jacket rule. The food was overall pretty good but i was surprised to see the cake trolley - something i last saw in 1981..with various uncovered desserts on...and if you like to make conversation with your friends and family then be prepared for it to be drowned out by the piano player...not out of tune as such but simply loud and unnecessary. The dinner was silver service which i personally found over the top, intrusive and out of date these days.
The staff it is fair to say were all very good , in particular the restaurant staff who all suffered the the stuffy atmosphere valiantly . The only issue being one particular member of staff who came to our room to check the mini bar and felt sufficiently at ease to break wind. Charming.
Overall, we did have a good stay and enjoyed ourselves. Yes, the average age is over 70 but hey, it is Sidmouth afterall , which by the way is a lovely town .

Thank you for your review after your recent stay with us. We are very pleased that you enjoyed the food and location and appreciated the staff at the Belmont. However, we do go out of our way not to be a travel inn type of hotel.

Sidmouth is one of England's finest traditional gems and we have tried to mix offering modern facilities (i.e. modern bathrooms, free Wifi, modern flat screen televisions etc) with traditional service (i.e. concierge on arrival and departure to help with parking and luggage, Silver Service in the Restaurant and turndown in the evenings).

I am sorry that our style of service is not to your taste. We go out of our way to maintain service from the past which is making us quite unique these days, and we experience a high level of customer satisfaction and feel that this is shown by a large number of repeat guests.

We thank you again for your review.

We stay in many Hotels. We stayed here as a 'stop off' to our booked holiday Hotel in Cornwall. We were so extremely pleased with our find! It is utterly wonderful!! The staff were very well presented with exceptional service. They are a true credit to the Hotel. Our room was fantastic. And Sidmouth was beautifully welcoming. After our night stay we left for Tregenna castle in Cornwall. This is Promoted as a beautiful 'upmarket' Hotel....we found dirt, a room which resembled a dated prison cell, tables tacky to touch, children running everywhere and a brick wall view! We suffered one night. Following morning I called The Belmont who welcomed us back immediately! We finished the remainder of our stay in this wonderful place. Will will most certainly use this place as our 'secret escape' and visit on a regular basis now.

Room Tip: Room 215..... amazing!!!!!

After a bad experience elsewhere I was reluctant to stay in another hotel I was glad to see health and hygiene taken seriously. This all added to a relaxing experience.
Next to the sea views and walks were excellent and local shops have an individual flavour.

My husband and I both 30 years old have just returned from this hotel for a weekend break and I begrudgingly paid the bill as we left!! It is set in a good location and when we arrived on Friday we went over the road to the victoria and used their swimming pool which was lovely. Came back to the Belmont and the bar was full of moany old people that thought they were above the staff they were very rude to the staff and moaning about everything even the otgere guests in the hotel for coughibg to loudly! The staff were very freindly and helpful what lets this hotel down is the other guests. Toffee nose old people looking down their noses at the younger generation. For dinner men had to wear a jacket and tie so we went out for dinner and found some lovely local restaurants. The room was clean quite dated but with a modern white bathroom. Breakfast was ok nothing special, tinned fruit!! What was quite disgusting was that eveywhere in the hotel advised guests to use hand sanitizer due to gastroenteritis being quite common. Well when I spoke to other locals they never heard of this so I can only put it down to the type of clientele The Belmont has staying there!!
Deffinately not worth £119 per person per night no way I have stayed in much better hotels and b and b's for less money and more money that have been much better.
Will not be returning to this out of date hotel, if you are under 70 years old please do not book this hotel it is like an overpriced old people's home!!

This was our 3rd visit to this wonderful hotel. Service impeccable, still has a turn down service complete with chocolate. Food is superb, 5 courses ( if you can manage) all perfectly seasoned and served. All the staff are welcoming and very pleasant.
Our room a standard twin over looked the sister hotel and the sea... I can only imagine how lovely the sea view rooms are.....
If you like charm and service this hotel is for you, yes the clients are of the older age group, but you feel really spoilt and relaxed. Cant recommend it enough.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the Victoria and the sea - side sea view
