My wife and I have stayed at the Belmont many times and, on this occasion, a friend also stayed at the hotel.

Over the many years we have been going to the hotel the accomodation, food and service from the staff have been excellent but there are some very minor issues/preferences (not complaints) that we would just mention which are as follows:-

1. Ensure that a full compliment of coat hangers is in each wardrobe and, if possible increase the number made available.

2. When any member of staff is looking to enter the room ask them to wait a short time before opening the door. On this visit and a previous visit the door has been opened before allowing enough time for the occupant to answer the door - possibly embarassing to both parties. Suggest the member of staff should knock twice as separate actions and to wait a reasonable time before opening the door.

3. Housekeeping staff should ensure that all items that should be left in the room are in fact put there. On this occasion no box of tissues and on previous occasions no tolet rolls, no bottled water, no face cloths. These are all separate occurences and relatively minor matters which were quickly resolved but should not have arisen.

4. Personal preference of my wife and I - please put black pudding on the breakfast menu.


Regardless of the above comments my wife and I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough with special mention for the efforts of all the staff we have met and we look forward very much to our next visit

Room Tip: Go for room 214 without a doubt - space, views, comfort

I'd agreed to play taxi driver to an elderly couple staying elsewhere in Sidmouth. Having arrived too early to collect them, I decided to have a glass of wine and snack somewhere along the seafront.
Beautiful day, I sat on the terrace at The Belmont with a delicious sandwich and glass of wine. Service was excellent and staff very friendly. I lingered for as long as I could, reading my book, glancing at the sea view and listening to the sound of a cricket match on the adjacent municipal ground. How very English and how very perfect. Would love to stay here but really couldn't justify it as I live only 30 miles away.

We were delighted to read that although your visit was a short one, you were able to sample some of the unique charm that Sidmouth and the Belmont have to offer. With stunning sea views, our Bar and terrace is a lovely place to enjoy a light lunch or an afternoon tea.

A very good hotel with exceptional staff, friendly polite and efficient. The hotel overlooks the sea-front, is most comfortably furnished and spotlessly clean and well maintained throughout. The room we were in was of medium size with a spotless modern bathroom although the shower could have done with greater pressure. A tip, we found out too late, if you don't like solid pillows a call to Reception can offer alternatives. Food in the restaurant was of good quality although the menus were a little redolent of Mrs Beeton for my personal choice. Overall a most pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front appear larger.

Not having been to Devon, we by chance picked to stay in Sidmouth rather than Torquay. Seeing Torquay later, we luckily picked well; less frantic and as much scenery/vista. The Belmont is very easily found and proved to have excellent service from the time we arrived at reception. Our seafront room had wonderful views and pleasantly appointed with separate bath and shower. It was evident that we were an exception to be only staying one night on a B&B plan; most of the other guests were staying for 3 nights (seemed to have best rates when including dinner).It was upper scale clientele who dressed nicely for dinner in the large,pleasant dining room. The bar/lounge provided appetizers with drinks, and it allowed a sea view that could be extended to the terrace in warmer weather.

Room Tip: As with any seafront hotel, target a seafront room.

Although a higher proportion of our guests book on dinner, bed and breakfast packages, we do our best to cater for all by providing bar meals with a more relaxed dress code in our Lounges. To get the best rates that include dinner, it is always best to contact the Hotel direct.

Fantastic, Tim (General Manager) and his team are 1st class hosts. From the warmth of the initial welcome to our departure the Belmont lives up to everything that has been written about it. Superb location, excellent staff, great selection of food, I just run out of compliments to say.
Thanks to Sadie (Front of house) for the welcome as soon as we arrived. Kirstan, Irma, Greg, Ronnie for looking after us in the Restaurant, Sue our housekeeper - always smiling, just to name but a few.
Have a good summer season and see you all in November.

Although this hotel is quite local to us we have stayed there in the past and were superbly looked after. However the main reason for writing this review to to praise their Sunday Lunch. It has to be one of the finest in England and great value. £25 for 6 courses if you include the coffee and mints in the lounge afterwards. It is quite formal with full silver service (in the evening gentleman will need a jacket and tie in the dinning room). The staff are very attentive without being overpowering and the quality of the food is excellent. We go several times a year for a treat and always try and book early for mothers day (costs a few pound more). Not one for small children but having said that we have been for big family parties with 2 and 3 year olds and it was not a problem. The view from the lounge looking out to sea and along Sidmouth sea front is worth the visit especially on a sunny day.

Room Tip: All rooms we have seen are good however it is always worth paying for a supior room.

We visit the Belmont at least twice a year. Just back home and we had another great time despite the fact that the main lounge was out of action for most of the time due to a new carpet being fitted - we were advised about this a fortnight before we were due to go - so went with some trepidation. We should not have been concerned - the staff made great alternative arrangements for everyone which were more than satisfactory. The service was great as was the food. Even the weather behaved itself - wet and windy both going down and coming back home but not at all bad when were there.

So thanks Tim and all you fantastic staff at the Belmont for another great time.
