Say what you like! for service, friendly staff, excellent food, which provides vegan, vergetarian + game, a wide variartion on every dinner + if you want extras just ask! its there, no question.
On the esplanade, afternoon tea & cakes what more do you want !
All flat walking, if you want to be adventurous go up to the caunaught gardens for lunch ( if you can manage it ! ) Lovely selection of the largest selection of cakes we have seen but down pig you will have a sumptious dinner awaiting later.
Would like to go back thanks to all the staff

Room Tip: go for a sea view , very romantic + a taste of the seaside

room 322 2nd-5th march 2012, location is ideal, right on the sea front and a stride from the town also a good base for visiting surrounding areas and countryside.
ALL the staff we came into contact with were friendly smiling, helpful and polite, majority from central/eastern Europe they certainly know how to treat people. the management appeared to have good people skills with the customers and between themselves. Room was good size and clean with ample refreshments, great views across the bay, the only problem i had was the early morning sun shining in the room which i imagine would be far hotter in the height of summer. the meals were delicious and varied, afternoon tea added to the charm and the service was second to none. The communal rooms were very comfortable regency style and perfect for relaxing.. the car parking was not a problem, yes, it is a small car park but the staff move the vehicles in and out when ever they need to be moved and they don't keep you waiting. if you want to be treated like a guest instead of a pest and lap up that good old fashioned hospitality then this is the place to go. we paid £64 per person per night for BBED and afternoon tea with a sea view room, don't expect modern furniture or interiors or swish lines, appreciate the charm this place has to offer

We spent an enjoyable time at this rater quaint old hotel with very good facilities, including a Spa, and very friendly and polite staff.
The tables in the restaurant were too close together, but this was not a problem for us, as we went to dinner at 8pm and everyone else had almost finished their meal by then!!!
The afternoon tea with home made cakes and scones was a bonus.
The parking was rather a problem, but we were able to use the car park on one of our two nights and there was unrsetricted street parking on the second (Saturday) night.
We will return and hope to enjoy a stay in the same room with magnificent sea views.

Room Tip: Request a sea view room.

We stayed in Sidmouth for two nights. This is our fifth visit to this hotel and as usual the service and facilities are superb. Our room was on the top floor with stunning views of the sunrises and sunsets as all of their sea front rooms are. None of the rooms are the same however as each has its own individual character with the quirky corridors and sloping floors. Do not expect pristine decor and straight lines. Expect to be able to roam the corridors and get lost, my husband has never found his way back to the room first time yet.

The food and service was as good as ever and the staff accommodated everythign our party of 20 had.

Room Tip: First floor rooms facing the sea are larger and have balconies. Third floor have uninterupted views.

Thank you for your kind review, we were pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the hotel.

To clarify the subject of star ratings, we have in fact been encouraged for the past two years by Visit Britain and the AA, to acquire a three star grading. We however feel that the Silver Award (Visit Britain) and 80% (AA) grading achieved, reflects the high level of quality offered. It is as they say, always better to exceed expectations!

We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

The hotel is on the seafront and our sea-view room was clean & comfortable. The staff were very efficient & always pleasant and helpful. The food varied from good to superb - the cakes at the included afternoon tea are especially good. I can only assume that it is only rated as 2 stars, because it lacks facilities like a gym and swimming pool.
