A lovely, homely rental, perfectly positioned for all we needed for our stay. The Rotunda Museum was great for all ages, our group ranged from 2 yrs up. The open top bus took us to Peasholme Park, then just a short walk to open theatre & the miniature railway, all well worth visiting. The owner very kindly provided parking permits and was very helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The property is close to the harbour and beach but access is up or down a very steep hill and was difficult for some of our family. The property is advertised as suitable for 10 people and child friendly, but only had seating for 5 in the living room and 8 in the dining room. The stairs were very steep and deep (10 not the usual 13 treads) and were difficult to negotiate both for adults and children, three very small ones in our case at ages 2,3 and 4 years. Overall it was quite stressful and we had to be very vigilant with the children as there were no safety gates. In fairness for many people the property would be fine. Issues with locked outside doors, faulty locks and parking issues were dealt with promptly by the owner.
I dropped my mother and my aunt for a week's stay, but myself only spent a night on each end.
They had a good stay, particularly enjoying the comfortable beds.
Unlike the last two cottages we rented, this one doesn't boast stylish and somewhat fancy decorations, but has more of a feel of a rental property.
I didn't meet the owner, and when we arrived late on Friday and struggled to unlock the door, couldn't get in touch. Luckily, the lock eventually gave in and opened.
The down sides are just one bathroom for the 4 bedrooms, including 2 in the top floor, a whole steep staircase away; and parking, which is limited to 2 hours of free parking between 9am and 6pm, so one needs to budget for the daily parking charges if staying in town.
On the plus side, the views from the windows of both master bedrooms are wonderful and location is very good for castle, beach and seaside walks. Everything is right on the doorstep, but it is quiet in the house, bar the seagulls' cries. We had a good time.
Really nice cottage, very conveniently located for the beach and the town centre. Great views from the two double bedrooms out over the harbour and the bay. Although the parking looks tricky, we had no trouble parking a large car (S-Max) outside the house every evening using the parking permit provided.
We will certainly consider staying there again if we come back to Scarborough
owner was very helpful and friendly when I called her, house was superb, clean tidy linen all provided, parking not a problem, views are fantastic, short walk to the front, downhill is easy but you better be fit for getting back up, very enjoyable weekend spent in sunny Scarborough
We had a really enjoyable weekend in Harbour View cottage. A lovely quirky cottage on 3 floors, with fantastic views from the bedrooms. Parking was easier than expected - we managed to park outside the house and then left the car there for the weekend and walked! Very conveniently placed for the beach, the castle, the town centre and North Bay. The cottage is warm, cosy and well equipped. We had a problem with the bathroom sink not draining and the owner fixed it the same afternoon. Would definitely recommend - the only drawback for some may be the very steep stairs! Can recommend the Alpamare water park too - not cheap but we had no trouble spending 4 hours there and the slides and outdoor heated pools are fab!
