booked the wife and i in for last weekend but returned home one day early, the new mattresses on our twin beds were good quality but very, very hard and as we're both old, our bones ached a lot and we found it difficult to sleep. otherwise everything was of the same high standard, food, cleanliness and friendly staff. they offered to find a room with softer mattresses but as there was only one more night to go we cut short the holiday. We will return, and the staff promised to book us into a room with softer mattresses!!! how's that for service!!

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the valley roads are noisier at night but not too intrusive. If you are on a self...

Stayed 5 days on trip with 'Alfa ' - fabulous holiday! The staff were so pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. A superbly managed hotel. Very good room - absolutely spotless (cleaning staff did a thorougly good job). Meal choices were very well thought out, delicious and artistically presented. Beautiful, stunning view from my room and excellent position of hotel meant lovely (hilly) walks to centre and beach. Can't understand why this hotel isn't 5 star - it certainly deserves to be!

Room Tip: With the position of the hotel - all rooms would have a pleasant view - but the North side had the v...

Stayed 5 days August 2012.Room very clean and comfortable. Good shower. The staff were very helpful and all our meals very good with plenty of choice. A short walk from the hotel takes you to the cliff top and great sea views. Quite a steep walk down into town. The hotel provides entertainment and has a good bar.Would recommend.

We stayed at the Cumberland 15th to 19th August 2012 to celebrate my birthday and wedding anniversary that week.

The room was lovely and we had a massive shower.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful and we were very surprised when the waiter brought a cake into the dining room for us, it was lovely. We felt special.

it was only a short distance to the top of the cliffs by the spa and a short stroll to the shops.

Can't wait to go again, thank you so much.

Room Tip: Room 310 is very nice at the front of the hotel and has a big shower.

Stayed at this hotel from 5th to 11th august 2012 these are the points I wish to make
1. Bedroom always clean
2. Bathroom spotless
3. Food hot and sufficient
4. Staff always helpful to you, with smiles on their faces which i feel is important
5. In a good position in Scarborough due to the elevation
6. We never used the entertainment due to us preferring to walk a lot and there is plenty of places to visit nearby lift access to beach nearby
7. Beds are comfortable I sleep normally on a memory foam mattress at home but these beds seem fine to me
8. Overall i pleasant second visit with more to come.

Booked trip to Scarborough with Alfa tours as a treat for my mum. The hotel is very
efficiently run , with friendly and helpful staff ( we were served at mealtimes by a
lovely waitress named Sasha ). Terry , the manager , introduced himself to us on
the coach on the first day and , together with the receptionist , waved us goodbye
as we left on the Sunday - a nice touch !
The food on offer is excellent and the drinks at the bar are reasonably priced.
We booked two single rooms , small but tastefully furnished , with really smart
bathroom. Only bugbear was that we booked for quiet rooms , although ours
faced on to the busy valley road below. Still would definitely go there again.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back facing the main road have a great view towards the town and part of the south...

Stayed at the Cumberland Hotel Scarborough Sat 2nd June 2012 for Two nights, we booked it at the last moment & on the advise of trip advisors good reviews. We were so glad we did because we had a really pleasant stay. Ten mins walk to the town centre was good. Most of the clientele are of pension age & are very friendly towards each other & are out for a good time. The whole place is clean tidy & well presented all the staff are amazing, no matter how hard you try you just can not catch them without a smile on their face, they can not do enough to help you enjoy your stay. The bedrooms although a little dated are spotlessly clean, the bathrooms are also very clean & ours had the most amazing powerful shower with loads of hot water. Breakfast is waiter served you choose from a menu, we chose the grapefruit segments followed by a full English, all was of good quality, our only small criticism would be that the tea & coffee served at breakfast had room for improvement but you do have tea & coffee in the rooms to make yourself that is instant & ok. All in all we loved our stay here we were treated like kings from arrival to departure.
We would not hesitate in recommending this Hotel & we will be looking forward to our next visit. We hope our opinion will be of help to someone choosing a Hotel in Scarborough.
