Stayed at The Cumberland Hotel between 3rd-9th august. And all I can really say is it is a very nice and very well run hotel. My room was very nice and clean. Bed was comfortable had no trouble sleeping, The food was very good and the nightly entertainment was excellent. Used Alfa Travel for the second year in a row and had a really good driver named Stuart. A really nice guy. A special mention for the hard working bar staff of Caroline, Alistair and Jamie who all put in a great effort. I really want to come to this hotel again. On another subject, we had a good selection of excursions which included York and a village called Goathland or as it's better known Adensfield in the TV series Heartbeat. Yes the Cumberland Hotel is a good all rounder

Chose this hotel based on price and proximity to The Spa where we had tickets for a show. A booking site placed this as about 0.2 miles from The Spa and most of the distance is vertical so you need reasonable mobility. Staff on reception very friendly and efficient and provided us with a parking disc that allows you to park in the nearby streets. Arrived around 2pm but unable to get our room until around 3pm. Thankfully the disc allowed 3 hours parking taking us up to 5pm on the Saturday when restrictions stopped and did not start again 'til noon on the Sunday so never had to move my car.

We had a ground floor room to the hotel rear that overlooked the valley. Contrary to a another reviewer the rooms are double glazed. The rooms are spacious and very clean with an information pack, hair drier, tv, tea/coffee facilities and some complimentary toiletries. Beds were comfortable although I would have preferred a quilt to sheets/blankets ... minor point. The hotel is in a quiet location although if your neighbours are deaf (the majority of customers are pensioners) then you may find yourself having to listen to loud conversations from early in the morning ... luck of the draw.

Breakfast was served between 8-9am. The menu comprised of starters (fruit juice, yoghurt, cereals, grapefruit, prunes etc) of which you could pick one item followed by a selection of mains. My partner seemed to enjoy the personal approach that everything was served to you but I think for what you pay most other hotels would have placed out the starters allowing you to help yourself to however many you wanted. The dining room was full but service was very efficient. We were supplied with an extra pot of tea on request.

Would be happy to use this hotel again or recommend to others.

There is absolutely nothing negative for me to write. The hotel was immaculately clean, the staff were super polite and helpful. The room was light and airy. The beds were lovely and comfy, the being crisp and clean. The en-suite had a lovely double shower and clean white totals and shower mat provided, also soap and shower gel. The dining room was spacious and not over crowded, the staff were polite and efficient. The breakfast choices would suit even the fussiest of dinners. The breakfasts were served promptly and were always hot! We didn't sample the evening meal but did smell nice! There was also entertainment if you didn't feel like going out. Overall it was a brilliant experience and we are hopefully, if a room is available, returning at the end of August. Also there was plenty of free parking outside of the hotel or on a nearby side road and the hotel provide you with a parking permit for the duration of your stay. The perfect holiday!

Me and my girlfriend stayed one night last night, excellent service, staff were very courteous, we were able to leave our luggage in reception before checking into our room on the Saturday and again after checking out on Sunday though please ask ahead first as we did, the room was very cool after a hot day walking around and a comfy bed was very welcome, plenty of Teabags and Coffee, the Bar area was very roomy and nice, will be staying again in the future
