“Fabulous luxury cottage holiday”
Reviewed 8 July 2012

We spent a week at the end of June here and had a wonderful time, despite the iffy weather!! We stayed in Merrydale cottage and found it extremely well equipped to make a complete high end home from home experience. Kitchen has Fridge/freezer, full oven and hob, dishwasher and everything you could need. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the highlight is by far the outdoor hot tub, perfect for relaxing in. Lovely to watch the chickens start roaming on the hill near the hot tub! We have 2 small boys who absolutely loved the chickens, ducks, goats and everything about the farm. Collecting the fresh free range eggs was a particular highlight. The farm is well situated for exploring the area, the staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this for a luxury British family break. Just a couple of things to note, its situated near an RAF station and the planes can sometimes fly very low and loud overhead (more exciting than annoying for us though) and the quilt in the bedroom is very thick and therefore very hot! Great for winter but not summer sleep comfort.

We have just returned from a 4 night camping holiday and Humble Bee Farm. The weather was mixed but we still had a great time. The staff lovely as are the facilities. Great shower blocks and washing up area. A little tip is to walk up to the shower room near reception it's often forgotten about. They are all kept very very clean - even in wet weather. The site was very busy on our first night and their was a large group staying in two wigwams they were loud and a little disruptive playing football until 10.30pm. (next three nights perfectly peaceful after they left) Our little boy loved the animals and collecting eggs in the morning. It's a fair old drive to the shops so get what you need to last you a couple a days. Morrisons about 10 minutes drive down the dual carriageway and co-op in Humingby again about 10 minutes. Nice chinese takeaway there too. There were lots of children staying aged about 3-7 yrs our son made lots of friends and really had a great time and was sad to leave. We felt safe letting him walk about the play/tent area (he's 4). We will be back for sure - this is a hidden gem, ideal for short family camping holidays with great facilities.

We booked Humble Bee Farm on a recommendation and we have just returned having had a fantastic weekend.

Julia and John could not have been more accommodating and we were worried how such large group as ours would be welcomed onto such a calm and peaceful site. We have read read some of the previous reviews about large groups (and Julia had also forewarned us about noise) but all I can say is if you respect Humble Bee Farm....it seems to respect you. We were warned in advance that Humble Bee is not a 'Party venue' but I must say my wife has had the best 40th Birthday and we definitely will be considering coming back this way again. Our group consisted of 14 adults and 15 children ranging in age from 10 months up to 12yrs and they all had a really good time. Julia pointed out an empty pitch and suggested we could use this for our group to gather together. We ended up having some great games on site and there was no sign of a curfew with the kids playing football right up to the time they went to bed. I can see this would not be possible when the site is full but we were certainly very happy with the set up. Shower blocks were clean and tidy and the hot water was plentiful. The only comment I would make is that the shower I used in the block next to the playground was a bit of a trickle....but I was able to wash and if I hadn't been so lazy I am told their were some brilliant shower blocks further up the site (near the reception).

You do need to keep an eye on the kids as the main track for all vehicles does lead straight down the middle of the site...but we kept one eye on the kids and by the end of the weekend they were all pretty wise to the hazard. Having the animals on site is brilliant and my kids particularly loved seeing the chickens, ducks and goats.

The wigwams themselves were well equiped and when our gas ran out on the BBQ John was up there in a jiffy (in his little yellow buggy) fixing us up with a new bottle (all included in the price). We didn't use the fire pits but they looked pretty cool. We decided with our kids running around that a fire pit could have been a bit too stressful!!

All told I would thoroughly recommend this site to familes and 'well behaved' large groups.

We will definitely be telling all our friends and once again many thanks to John & Julia and all the team for making us feel so welcome.

Love from the Clynch Family in Harrogate XX

From the moment of booking until the time of our trip we had excellent service with all requests handled efficiently. We booked 3 wigwams and 2 tent pitches for our Dads birthdays and fathers day weekend. There was a group of 16 of us age range from 2 to 66 years and all in between! the wigwams were a great base, clean, tidy and warm with everything in there we needed. We brought a gazebo and sat outside both nights eating, drinking and toasting marshmallows over the fire pit and having a lovely family time together. Overall we had a fun memorable weekend and would definitely recommend it to others.

From start to finish, i.e. booking our stay, to the warmest farewell, Humble Bee Farm proved to be the most wonderful holiday choice we could have made.

The farmhouse, lodgings, pitches and WigWams are situated in a secluded little dell/valley, giving the impression that this is a secret little place for you and your loved ones to spend a rather special holiday together. Our son is two and a half years old and he couldn't have been more taken by the act of stepping out of his WigWam in the morning and being able to see cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, guinea fowl and goats almost on the doorstep - there are tractors and a combine harvester in or near the barn next to the little duck pond too. The open invitation to go and collect an egg or two from the coops also added a sense of adventure to the mornings! The farmer, who was a regular presence on the site, was also extremely friendly and loved answering questions from both big and little people.

The washing facilities are in tip-top condition, heated and easily accessible from all parts of the site. There is a wood-chip play area with a couple of swings and a raised platform with a slide attached, which is very good for children up to about 10 years old, although younger children should not be left unattended of course.

For a first foray into a family camping holiday with a toddler, the WigWams offer loads of comfort and practicality. They are pretty soundproof, which given the nature of toddlers and early rising, eases any possible guilt of waking up other campers too early! They are a lovely space in which to play should the weather take a down-turn, and they have a food prep area with a kettle and microwave and shelving, which at meal/snack times is a God-send! The gas-powered barbecues outside also offer space to cook without them getting under your feet.

All in all, we can't recommend Humble Bee Farm enough - fantastically friendly staff, top rate facilities, and a genuinely heavenly setting make this the perfect place for a holiday...oh, and it's only 5 miles from the long sandy beach at Filey with its free parking! We are definitely going back soon

I booked for us to camp for two nights at Himble Bee Farm after reading good reviews. We were not disappointed! This farm is set in the hills of a tiny village near Filey and is in a great location for accessing Filey, Scarborough and Whitby.

Upon arriving we were greeted by the delightfully friendly owners and given a sheet about the farm rules. We went to pitch our tent and drove past free-range chicken coops (where you are welcome to go and collect eggs), a small lake, goats and a barn. We took note of the two shower blocks with free showers (in my opinion, the one next to reception is nicer and quieter). The tent area is quite small which is nice and is surrounded by a beautiful landscape.

There are nature trails from the farm that children can enjoy and there always seemed to be morning activities. The farm also sells freshly cooked bacon sandwiches in the mornings and there is a very small but useful little shop in the reception. You can also hire a firepit from here for a very good price.

As two young people in our mid twenties, who aren't into drinking or partying, we felt very much at home at this site. The farm is suitable for families with children, or the older camper as it is so peaceful. Overall our stay was wonderful and we have booked to camp there again this august.

We have just returned from a 6 night caming trip with our three young girls and have all had a great time - apart from the weather!!!

Some lovely touches - provision of a fridge freezer and microwave! collecting fresh eggs for breakfast! and large pitches.

Great location for the beaches. Would certainly recommend it to other families visiting the area.
