I booked Merrydale cottage for a relaxing time for my husbands 40th and son's 18th birthdays. We had a horrendous time getting there with the snow so we were hoping the cottage was everything we wanted. On arriving we were absolutely delighted, in fact I would go so far as to say that it exceeded our expectations.
We arrived to be greeted by breathtaking landscape completely covered with snow, beautiful accommodation and Julia and John were there at hand to offer absolutely any help needed (nothing was too much trouble)! The accommodation looked impressive from the outside and was equally impressive when you walked in... All the rooms were lovely and warm with the heated floors and there was a wood burning fire in the living room. The whole place was pristine, every detail had been thought about. We appreciated the welcoming box with tea. coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits and the pampering set in the bathroom. The hot tub was totally relaxing. We will definitely be returning and we will highly recommend to all our friends and family.

We booked a Cottage at Humble Bee Farm (Swallows Nest) as a 2 night weekend break for my husbands Birthday. Although the Cottage was beautiful and very well appointed the weekend itself was very disappointing for a couple of reasons, one of which, to be fair was out of the owners control.
We were greeted by the owners who were very nice and had a lovely log fire lit for us on arrival. We were shown around the cottage which was lovely, everything you possibly need and decorated beautifully throughout. However, when we were shown the hot tub we were told that it would take another "2 or 3 hours to get to the correct temperature". We waited 7 and half hours before it got to the set temperature! We had wanted to use the hot tub whilest dinner was cooking and kept going out to check if it was ready, we were only there for 2 nights, it should have been ready for us when we arrived, as has been the case in the past in other cottages we have stayed in. It still wasnt ready so we gave up, put the champange back in the fridge and sat down to our meal and watch to X Factor.....then the sound went off on the television!! (some might say that this was a bonus, but I love the X Factor!!) the problem was only on channel 3 but we had planned to watch the X factor both nights we were there, Sat & Sun. I was pretty fed up by this point....still no hot tub and now no sound on the programme I wanted to watch!Apparentley the transmitter was down. Apart from 5 mins on the Sun afternoon we didnt have sound on that channel the whole time we were there. Obviously this spoilt things for us, but I think it was just unfortunate, the cottage itself was delightful and Julia did offer us another cottage which had Sky and she had put the heating on for us, but we declined because it was inconvenient and we still hadnt used the hot tub at this point and wanted to do so.
So, although the cottage was lovely, as were the owners, we had a disppointing time due to some problems that were out of the owners control and some that were not.

I have now stayed at Humble Bee Farm, in one of the four wigwams, twice in one year. They are so much fun to stay in and would suit all sorts of people. They are clean and spacious. It has everything that you need, including a microwave, a decent size fridge, kettle and a toaster with an electric heater and electric lights. The beds are surprisingly comfortable and it's really cosy. It's such a beautiful setting nestled in the bottom of the farm set in the valley. It's lovely and peaceful with the cows to say hello to in the mornings! The only downside at the moment is that the facilities are a bit of a trek but for 2010, they're building a new facilities block, which will be much nearer to the wigwams. The facilites are nice and clean with powerful showers. The owners of the farm and really friendly and welcoming and most helpful. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone and I will be a regular visitor for many years to come. I'd move in and pay rent if I could!!

We stayed in one of the four wigwams at Humblebee farm for two nights in April 2009. The wigwams are wooden "A" frame cabins with padded sleeping platforms, which easily transforms into a double sleeping area. A family of two adults and two kids could easily sleep comfortably. Inside there is also a heater, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. There are two drinking water taps with in a few feet of the wigwams. Each wigwam has a parking space and a private area around it with a picnic bench and gas BBQ. We sat and watched the sun go down amid peace and rolling hills.
There are also pitches for tents and caravans with electric hook up. There's a play area with swings and a small shop for essentials. The shower/toilet block is very clean and well thought out with plenty of hot water and there are laundry facilities on site. For people who want more luxury there are also three farm buildings converted into holiday cottages, which appear to be very nicely done.
The working of the farm does not appear to interfere with the peace of the accommodation, in fact the friendly chickens, ducks and pigs are quite an attraction around the farm yard pond and the family who run the place are very friendly and helpful.
We found the food in the local pub The Fox Hunter (about a mile away at the end of a fairly steep track) served delicious and very generous meals for a reasonable price.
I would happily recommend Humblebee wigwams to anyone who wants simple accommodation, in beautiful surroundings at a reasonable price .
