“The worst hotel we have ever been to.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2013 via mobile

This was without a doubt the worst hotel we have ever been to. To begin with all parking is pay & display in the centre of Scarborough (hence we ended up parking a long way away from the hotel). The first room we were shown to was discusting, it smelt of mould, was boiling hot, with no air conditioning, fan or even a window that opened (NOT an option during the summer heat wave and being 34 weeks pregnant). Needless to say we asked for another room, and were shown to one with windows that opened approximately 2inches outwards (apparently due to people threatening to jump out of them - I'm not surprised staying in this place- & because of the risks of seagulls flying into the rooms). Which takes me onto the noise- albeit the window opened, onto a concrete forecourt (see picture) which had approximately 40 seagulls underneath the 'bird net' who proceeded to chirp inscessently. The bed was lumpy & had a strange smell, there was tea & coffee but no cups or kettle, the whole room was foul & depressing. We checked in and within an hour checked out. The girl on the desk was unsympathetic and rude, and never were we apologised to until I spoke to the manager the following day, who has given us a voucher for another stay at a travel lodge- something we will NEVER be using. I cannot believe there are hotels rated lower than this in the country let alone in Scarborough, I dread to think..... Don't stay here!

I would recommend this hotel. It was quite impressing that the room was tidy and nice. The washroom in our room comes with a big window and it looks bright and clean. However, the water pressure of the shower is very weak and the water is not hot enough.

The seagulls were really noisy at midnight (I think this is common in Scarborough).

The hotel is quite close to the main street (5-10 mins walk) so you can do some shopping and have a meal easily. It takes 15-20 mins to Tesco.

OK, maybe it was the room we stayed it. However, the sliding window did not close properly, there was a two inch gap under the door, there was no remote control - the staff said they would have to take one from another room - the window we had looked over a dirty roof and a corridor. The noise from the seagulls who perched only feet away from the window was constant - all night. I know that isn't the hotels fault, it just added to our frustration. It was quite cheap, but I wont be staying there again.

With Travelodge's you get what you pay for, and this is no exception, at the end of the day a hotel is just somewhere to lay your head for the night; the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean, and a decent size, although the hotel itself is in need of a renovation, as the main thing that concerned me was the mould on the wall on the first floor, but apart from that I was overall satisfied with the stay and should I return to Scarborough I would definitely stay here again.

I thought I would agree with Johnchapplell & Nervous Travellers87 but our experience of this Travelodge was terrible we stayed Friday 19th - Sunday 21st and paid £64.00 for Friday and £78 for Saturday and the room in the attic was not good value for money, It was a pokey hole nothing like the photograph on the web site It wasn't fit for sleeping in ok it was clean enough apart from the Seagull poo all over the windows, but the heat hit us as we walked in , I asked reception could we open the window a little more only to be told that it was health and safety that it could only open no more than 6 inches, I then asked for a fan told they were all out, this was not good enough I could tell they were not interested, we will never never stay in a Travelodge again and I will be telling all our families and friends

Room Tip: Just don't go there

We've now stayed at this Travelodge on around 4 or 5 occasions - just about to book up again and thought 'oh I'll write a review for this one'.
Location - superb - great views in most of the rooms out over the lovely North Sea.
Rooms - larger rooms than usual as it's an old Victorian building - nice and light too.
Value for money - spot on - we stayed for Easter weekend 2013 and the stay for 3 nights was a smidge over £100.00 - EXCELLENT!!
Cleanliness - excellent as with most Travelodges.
Staff are friendly and efficient too. There is a small bar area and internet access too.
Parking - tricky to get parked outside of the hotel, but if you ask they will give you a discount card for a car park about a good 5 minute walk away.
The lodge has been going through a makeover for the past couple of years and does need this, but hey, the rooms and reception are fine.
All in all highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view - most of them have this so you should be ok.

You get what you pay for in life and this hotel is no exception.
It is in a great location, near the sea and handy for town.
The rate we paid was £4o per room and was good value at this price.
The room was basic, but spotlessly clean and had all the facilities you would expect from a travelodge. The staff were friendly and helpful and made our stay enjoyable

I think that it was great value and would not hesitate to stay there again.

As regards Scarborough, it needs a good clean as there are seagul droppings everywhere! There appears to be no attempt to clean or wash the streets and pavements and as a consequence the smell and build up of dropping is unacceptable,-.
Overall good vacation in a very dirty old town that has seen much better days
