Travelodge Scarborough St Nicholas Hotel

Excellent location in Scarborough. We had a lovely view of the sea. There was a path down to the front or a tram/train if you found the path difficult because it was steep. It was close to the town centre and there were lots of cafes and coffee shops close by. The staff were friendly and helpful.

This hotel is a disgrace and does not deserve any stars at all; the room was shabby with the sash windows stuck together, the view was a brick wall about 10 feet away. The room had so much electrical conduit tacked on to the walls that it looked like a road map, the toilet seat was broken, insufficient towels and no toiletries. The central light was no where near the centre of the room and way too dim to be of any use, one bedside light was broken, the quilt was a thin white thing. The bed was adequate

The too few staff were amazing and deserve a medal for the long hours they do and for coping so cheerfully with so many unhappy guests.

The lounge area is unwelcoming, with no curtains, too few seats and is too brightly lit. The lift is too small and the wait for it was too long, couldn't find the stairs.

Breakfast was terrible, poor choice, poor quality and too few seats/tables. Too few staff were trying to maintain order and service... and losing.

Parking is a real problem, not just at this hotel but in Scarborough as a whole. In one hour we saw 10 wardens patrolling and producing tickets with not a care about the towns reputation.

We had to park in the nearby multi-storey at £10 per day and by the time you have added this to the price of breakfast each day the cost of staying here is not a bargain/budget price at all.

Thank you to the staff and no thank you to Travelodge........never again will I waste our money and time by staying at one

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

Very run-down, creaky floors, flaky decoration and the windows are covered with layers of bird crap. At breakfast we had to ask for essentials, eg glasses, cutlery, bacon, tomatoes which then resulted in waiting several times. Room was inexpensive but would rather pay more for better quality experience. Won't be booking here again!

Accepts dogs (at a charge) but rooms are not standard and this time had no bath and a lumpy mattress - parking always hit and miss but handy for beach and town - would probably stay again with the dogs.

The hotel has old single-glazed wooden framed windows. These are draughty and don't provide much sound insulation. Being near the sea you get a lot of exterior noise from seagulls.

The mattress quality doesn't help provide a good night's sleep either. It's less comfortable than what's available from Argos as a 'value' occasional mattress.

The bathroom was a decent size but the bath was grubby.

The most positive thing was the tea & coffee facilities.

If it wasn't for the view in this room I'm not sure this place would be worthy of rating.
Staff: shout out to Jordan, Hannah and John. Each were very helpful and seemed to know this hotel wasn't the greatest but did their best to make up for it.
Breakfast: very standard selection but the juice is watered down and the rest of it isn't worth the 7.95. Save the sausage though. It was good.
Room: Do not get tgis room with a baby. The view was very nice and allows for early wakeup as the sunrise lights up. The bed is deplorable. Never felt more uncomfortable and I deployed to Afghanistan. The smell that welcomes you into the room is something of a baitshop. You do get a seagull that visits regularly to say hi. We named him Merlin. The floors are as creaky as an 80 year old paratroopers back.
There is a sign in the lobby saying they will remodel soon and they certainly need to.
Location is great. A quick walk down hill to the beach or up hill to two great restaurants Cafe Fish and Steps Steakhouse.

Staff very friendly and polite, and the view from room 421 was superb, half Grand Hotel and half Sea view. Room was very clean but a little distressed. Only downside was the noise - The bed creaked like a Mo-fo and there were a LOT of slamming doors and heavy footsteps until around 1am. An IPod loaded with Vivaldi is recommended if you want a half decent nights sleep, however, these are only minor niggles for the price paid, overall Scarborough is a superb place to walk around in, especially 5-7am when there are no horrid humans around (Second only to Edinburgh, a true urban wanderers paradise) and two nights for less that £80 is nothing to be sniffed at where this muppet comes from!

Room Tip: Anything on the sea facing side is probably ok - 3rd floor and up to be sure. 421 to 424 excellent.
