“Good break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2014

Thank you to the team at Traveloge for the warm welcome that you gave us form the muinite we arrived. The room was clean, warm and well serviced by the house keeping team. Unlike the misfortune we had whilst staying at a large hotel nearby that has remained in same era as when England had to pay window tax. It was great to stay again in this location in a pleasent room as we find it very central to shopping, bars, resturants and the beach. (also the Spa, South cilff with some fantastic gardens and a short walk to the north of the town, Peasholem park and the open air thertre, etc)

Our family of four stayed for one night whilst taking in a concert at the Open Air Theatre. Like other recent reviews state, the building is a little tired and will welcome it's upcoming refurbishment. Reception were pleasant and booked us a taxi after we checked in. Room was clean and typical Travelodge basic, as expected. Slight damp marks near the kettle area and on the old wooden sash windows. Our view was 3 walls and not good for the claustrophobic. TV was small and limited channels with no interactive features. Lighting poor particularly near the door and mirror/hanging area. Areas of the corridors and stairs smelt damp and musty with bare patches of ceiling but I guess the refurb will sort that out. Sleep was difficult due to a small flat pillow and the seagulls in the middle of the night. Breakfast was ok for the price. Good selection of cereals, juices, yogurts, croissants and muffins. The hot buffet had a surprisingly good quality sausage, decent bacon, scrambled egg, beans and tomatoes. The bread for the toast was thin and limp and the sunflower spread not pleasant - better without or with lashes of jam or marmite or chocolate spread. But for the price just about ok.
The best thing about this hotel is the location. You step out to the sea view and it is very close to the town and the sea front. We were lucky to get parked just in front but had to keep topping up the pay & display, although it is free from 6pm-
9am.
Overall it was adequate for our needs. We paid £90 for a family of four including breakfast on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday which is ok I suppose but I wouldn't rush back in its current tired condition.

Make sure that you request a decent room on arrival as ours was dirty with poor fitting Windows and tired old beds with soiled duvets. Pillows were flat and old, beds were worn out and uncomfortable, sheets old and worn, duvet stained. This hotel is due an upgrade but the Travelodge website and marketing still shows the latest room pictures and as did the Travelodge van parked out side. Probably acceptable for a stag or hen but not for families.

Room Tip: Don't stay at this hotel

We have stopped in many Travelodge's over the years and have always had a pleasant stay, The St Nicolas hotel was a big let down!
Rooms freezing cold! Dirty! Mould on the walls ans celling in the bathroom!

We stayed here one night in August as it was the only place in scarborough that had the four rooms we need for our family group. It is very tired, quite scruffy and smelt of damp. Some of the rooms unbearably hot altho they did provide us with a fan. Had to close the windows in middle of the night as the seagulls were ridiculously loud but can't blame travelodge for this! We have booked two. Ignites in October but with premier inn that is closely, much better in every way and thirty pounds cheaper per family room!!!

Room Tip: Stay at the nearby premier inn it's actually cheaper!

Great location and pleasant staff but hotel is In desperate need of a total refurb. Rooms was dark, dated and unwelcoming. Reminded me of budget student accommodation. Price did not reflect this. Would not stay again unless huge improvements made.

We stayed here for a couple of days during the Scarborough cricket festival.

Firstly I have to say the customer service was excellent in changing our room for our disabled daughter. Our room was clean and great value for money which is what you can expect from all travelodge hotels.

The hotel is in a good location and handy for all the local amenities including beach etc. We even had time for the buffet breakfast which was good value with a very good selection of hot and cold food.

Despite some negative comments by other reviewers we found our stay to be very good and the staff were really friendly. The only negative comment we had was that it is very difficult to park near the hotel even with a blue badge.
