Reviewed 23 September 2009

We spent 5 nights at the Travelodge and had a wonderful break in Scarborough. Service at reception was very good, room service (cleaning and replenishing) was fair, service in the restaurant variable. For example sometimes there was a long wait for eggs, bacon etc and some staff apeared to be untrained other staff appeared to be from a 5 star hotel.
Our double room was small, ideal for a single person for one night. The room was also uncomfortably warm during the night. We were aware from discussions with other guests that large double and family rooms at the front of the hotel with a sea view were excelent whereas double rooms at the rear were small, hot , and some noisy with restricted views.
The best features were the friendly staff and guests also facilities in and around Scarborough. We did not enjoy the hot room or the sewer/boiled cabbage smell in the hotel lift lobby.

We stayed at the travelodge scarbrough for 2 nights, the cost was 42pound a night each for me and my friend for our double rooms, plus 5.99 for breakfast.. booked on the internet .the rooms where very basic on the 2nd floor and both facing the back, had terrible views ,the bedding &towels where very clean though, rooms where quiet small..was quiet dissapointed if am truthfull, and dont think would stay there again..I would love to try the grand hotel, but the reviews i looked at rate it awfull ,so i might look around next time i travel to scarbrough, which is a lovly place me and my friend had a great time we loved looking around scarbrough, the weather was nice and sunny...

We styed here for 2 nights in August, had a room at he back which was clean and basic as usual, we have stayed in many Travelodges. Very hot overnight and noisy seagulls as window had to be open, but yes, it is the seaside.
Had a 4 am fire alarm so all trooped outside in the rain, and were eventually informed that something in the basement had set the alarm off but the basement was locked and they had no key. Very unsatisfactory. No fire engine to confirm it was safe to enter the building again, although we all did, and the following day no one on reception could give a satisfactory explanation. Safety didnt seem very important.
Have tried to e mail Travelodge with a complaint but the message would not go through!

We stayed at this Travelodge for 2 nights at the beginning of September and had a great time. I realise after reading some of the other reviews that we were very lucky and got a huge room on the second floor with a lovely sea view. It is typically Travelodge with good clean basic facilities and comfortable beds and pleasant staff.
We had pre-booked breakfast which on the first day was busy but there was still plenty of everything to eat, the second day we ate early and there were very few people about.
We paid £13 to park in the nearby multi storey car park about 5 minutes walk away not sure how much the on street parking costs but I do know there was hardly ever any free spaces.
All in all a good stay and I would not hesitate to return.

We stayed in Scarborough for four nights including breakfast for £215 for four of us. If you book early you get the cheaper prices. You couldn't stay in a B&B for anywhere near that price! We got room 404 which had an excellent bay window with a seaview - couldn't have wished for better. Our room was very clean, we asked for extra pillows which were delivered to our room promptly. The staff were fantastic, very helpful and friendly. I do wonder sometimes what people expect to get for their money when they complain on this website. A travelodge does not advertise 4 or 5 star qualities as the receptionist told one visitor they are a budget hotel and for the money that we paid it was excellent. The breakfast had something for everyone - again if you prebook it it's cheaper and the kids are free. A tip for anyone staying there travelling by car - go to the toursit info kiosk on the seafront and get a parking permit it costs £5 per day and you get a day free. The permit can be used in various car parks in Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, Robin Hoods Bay. We parked in the South bay underground car park for 4 nights which is just below the hotel, but we also used it when we went to Whitby to which was handy. We will definately be staying here again.

If you will be given a room in the back of the hotel and you suffer from claustrophobia you might as well spend the night in your car. Avoid rooms 103 or 203 because the building's extractors, airconditioner extractors and kitchen exhausts are directly outside your very tiny window so close you can almost touch them extractors. it is very smelly, grimy, dirty and VERY NOISY. They tried to hide the unhideable by putting net curtain. Do they really think we are braindead?!! Be very pleasant and patient with the desk supervisor because you will be at his mercy to move you to another room (that is if there is any vacant room available). But if it's not your lucky day and have to stay in one of the rooms in the back i am sure you will feel upset and depressed. Don't open the curtains and don't look out of the window. Just go straight to sleep!!! The only consolation we got is we stumbled upon a really good mexican restaurant called Chili. This is about 500 yards towards the train station. The food is truly superb. I can be a good food critic because i can cook all sorts of international dishes. One reason to go back to scarborough.
