“Value for money”
Reviewed 5 November 2013 via mobile

After our weekend away just thought i would write to balance the scales against all the people moaning about this hotel from the minute we walked in to the minute we left we encountered friendly attentitive efficient staff our rooms were clean spacious and tidy the bar/lounge was snug and homely the beds were very comfortable hence the excellent nights sleep in the morning we were served a very tasty plentiful breakfast all in all an excellent value for money stay yeah ok there is the odd bit that needs a lick of paint but if these things bother you then i suggest you pay 5 star prices for 5 star facilities

This is my favourite place to stay, its affordable, has a great view over North Bay, lots of sea-view rooms and you can book a deluxe sea-view room for big bay windows and lots of space.

Its not perfect, its not dirty, the furnishings need a lick of paint in places, though its mostly good, but does that really matter? Its friendly, breakfast is good, the rooms are nice. One thought is that me and and my daughter felt really uncomfortable at breakfast. Even though there were lots of free tables we placed next to a couple, squeezed so close together our elbows could have touched! It felt really uncomfortable. There were about 50 tables, only about 10 groups of diners and we were shoved elbow to elbow together with 2 strangers in the corner! Some people like that 'getting to know the other guests' thing but my daughter and I found it hard to eat and had to leave as soon as we could. We're shy. Maybe people can request a more private table on booking during off-season visits?

Its great though, we love the elephant sitting room, as we call it, which is often empty being tucked away, over-looks the bay through a big window and has elephant ornaments. Its lovely and homely.

Breakfast staff were lovely, we were served by a polite, friendly, smiling young lady with blonde hair who couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Food was hot and good quality. The porridge was amazing.

Our room and en-suite were clean, warm and comfortable with a good view and we got a good sleep with no noise disturbance from other guests. I get the impression they have a very local visitor base here, and were wonderful hosts to a large group of disabled guests that arrived.

This was our third visit, we always go out of season and I can't wait to come back. I just hope I get a bit more privacy while I eat breakfast next time!

Our advice is to stay clear. I am aware that it was 2 star hotel, but i am sure that that was starred some time ago. Food awful, no choice, service terrible, will be more selective booking coach tours again.

Room Tip: We had a sea view room 309, Separate WC was the let down of the room.

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay but in response to your complaints, our menu at evening dinner and breakfast all have multiple choices so that complaint is very unjust and a lie. Your room was a sea view twin room and if the problem was that your toilet was seperate to your showe but still within your room then i apologise but we would of moved you rooms if was possible. Maybe you should be more selective by not paying budgett holiday prices.

All I can say is I found the hotel was tired but I can look past that until I entered my room that smelt of drains . I did tell the manager and 2 hours later it was sorted out. The night mare for me was the food omg cottage pie and rice pudding is this an old peoples home or a hotel. I am a chef and can I say it is the worst meal I have had in My life and breakfast was stone cold. One of the waitresses needs to learn how too speak to customers asking if they want gat o it is gateaux ..There was a lovely well mannered waiter who was very young but very polite. Your chef needs to be sacked. Travelstyle 27th october

In response to your offensive review i would just like to say we solved your problem with the smell in your room so i fail to see your complaint on that situation, In reguards to saying we are a old peoples home i think that is offensive to older people even if ober 90% of our customers are pensioners who do indeed enjoy their stay with us.
I am amazed that you complain that the word gateax was pronounced incorrectly to your liking but i am affraid that everybody has different accents and also the X is silent so it does indeed get pronounced Gat o as you put it. We also recieved lovely comments about our food during your stay, apolagise for you not enjoying your stay but maybe you should go somewhere that does not have an accent or serve classic british dishes.

My Mum and Dad went on a mid-week trip and stayed in the Delmont hotel, and said it was fantastic! They can’t say enough good about the hotel, and the staff! They didn't like the room they were given, and the staff moved them no problem!

Staff and the people they met were lovely, the food, the entertainment, could not fault any of it! Nothing was a hassle for the staff in the hotel, they took pride in their customer service and look after my Mum and Dad very well!

They had heard people saying bad things about the hotel, but Mum said for a mid-week, last minute National Express trip they didn't expect the Hilton but didn't expect to stay in a lovely hotel like the Delmont. People criticized the place, but for paying for a budget trip like my Mum and Dad did, they are the people who want everything for nothing say’s Dad! If they want the Hilton, go there and pay for it, penny pinchers he called them!

Luckily Mum said the people they met in the hotel as guests were lovely too and they will be staying in contact with them! Mum even left the staff a £10 tip as they did a great job! Mum and dad would recommend the Delmont Hotel and for those who don't like, simple, don't stay there!

I have just returned from another great weekend at The Delmont with the Denis Collier Country Music weekend which has, and still takes place in that hotel three times a year for the last 21 years, with the same regular people. It's a family run hotel with a relaxed atmosphere, the staff have always been, and without exception, polite and helpful. It is not a five star hotel and the realistic prices reflect this. It is such a shame that too many English hotels these days have to reduce prices to a minimum in order to attract customers for low cost stays. This is without doubt, bound to have an impact on the maintenance of certain areas and the number of staff that it affords. The family always endeavour to keep their customers happy and if there are complaints these are usually dealt with to a satisfactory conclusion, and as long as the main things are in order, i.e. linen, towels and food ok that's fine as not much time is spent in one's hotel room usually. It is also a shame that most comments are usually received with negative feedback - happy customers (and there were plenty in our party) usually pass their comments on to only friends and family, however, they have all booked in for the next DCL break at The Delmont.
