“Great Value for Money”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

I visited for a week of surfing - It was the cheapest accommodation I could find in Scarborough and I had a sea view, a fully equipped kitchen and the perfect location to drive to nearby surfing beaches or walk down to the Golden Ball pub for an organic beer. It is not luxury but that is why its so cheap! For the price paid it was great value and I would definitely go back again when the surf is up.

Stayed her in August 2012 and 2013. This place is no palace but its not the worst place in the world. We stayed in a self catering apartment which met our needs. The décor was dated and the TV in the room was only a small portable. The kitchen was fine and we were able to make a breakfast. The rooms were large and whilst not spotless it was by no means dirty.
The second time we stayed it was in an en suite room only. Its was similar to the above review for the apartment. There was WiFi advertised but we were advised because we were at the back of the building this would not work. Parking wasn't free but was reasonable.
In my view you get what you pay for with this place. Its reasonable value and if you judge it on the price paid its not the worst place. Next time I go to Scarborough I would probably try somewhere else. My wife visited Scarborough recently and stayed in an another self catering apartment which was reasonably priced and in her opinion it was much better.

I recently booked the apartments as a refreshing break after doing the Wetherby to Filey bike ride. This place was a total disappointment,

It all started off well with the receptionist letting me park the car on the Friday evening with no mention of charging us for the privilege. It got worse when we arrived. The rooms were Spartan to say the least and then there are electricity meters you have to put money into. It got worse! There was no hot water, lots of cold but the hot tap didn't work.

It looks as though the apartments are used outside of peak season as DSS rooms.

In all, totally disappointed and will never book there again. There are other problems but it is depressing writing this much. How is this place full?

Room Tip: Don't stay here

Stayed in one of the larger rooms with four friends for a full weekend. Everything in the room excellent. Clean and tidy, good shower, decent fridge cooker etc. All great. Only a 4* as it was a bit cheeky asking for a fiver to pay for electricity in the room. Other than that I can't fault the place. Friendly down to earth staff too.

We paid £140 for one night in what was described as a newly refurbished apartment.
From the entrance of the hotel to the accommodation, past an open entrance to the kitchen for a restaurant, the smell of grease was over-powering, the carpet on the three flights of stairs was thread bare, paint peeling from the ceilings and walls, dirty and in poor condition and also poorly lit.
The accommodation had a shower that is not fit for purpose, there were handles missing from units, a unit top that had a "wear" hole in it, a window with a broken latch that could not be closed or secured, the bedside cabinet top was not fixed on, there were no towels in the room (and no staff to ask for any), the loft hatch in the bedroom was warped and black dust was dropping from it onto the bed, the rubbish bin was broken! very poor standard of accommodation especially at the cost!

Room Tip: We only had experience of 1 apartment so can not comment on other rooms in this hotel!

Thank you to the team at Vill Esplanade, wonderful stay once again. They upgraded us to an apartment which was a nice touch. This was our third stay and certainly will not be our last.

This is not the ritz so don't expect it to be, it's clean and comfortable and very handy for the local amenities. Plus it has a fantastic restaurant 'el gringos' joined on to the hotel which is a MUST visit.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, car parking is minimal but can be prebooked at a small cost.
