“Fantastic stay at the Gordon”
Reviewed 7 May 2013

My wife and my daughter have just returned from our 3rd stay at the Gordon and it certainly won't be our last. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone. The hotel is very clean and the food is both fresh and very tasty, and overall it represents excellent value for money. The most striking feature however are the owners, Christine and Lawrence who make you feel very welcome, and provide a service that is unrivalled. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and they go the extra mile to ensure your stay is a memorable one. They also provide the evening entertainment which we thoroughly enjoy and which provides something to look forward to after a day at the beach. A throughly enjoyable stay, in a great location and with fantastic service - a place you must stay if you are going to Scarborough! Mark Fellows

I do not go in for the brash, noisy, town hotels, preferring a nice quiet country hotel or one in a quiet part of town. The Gordon Hotel is the latter, a delightful hotel overlooking the sea, Peasholm Glen and then Castle. It is ideal for children being on a quiet road within easy walking distance of the parks in the North Bay and the sea. I spend 3 lovely nights in this very quiet hotel situated in a quiet part of town overlooking the North Bay. The road that the hotel is situated on does not have the parking restrictions that many of the hotels in the town seem to suffer, There was ample parking for about 6 cars off road and loads of parking on the road. There is a tendency to get blocked in as the parking runs up the side of the hotel but I parked on the drive of the hotel was not blocked in and even went out in the evening and all day and still parked in the same place. No doubt if I had been blocked in then the other drivers would easily move for me. I spent the night in a double room overlooking the castle and the sea, but was not charged extra for a double with single occupancy. Many of the hotels that I stay in charge extra for this.

The hosts were very pleasant, very chatty and came into the bar in the evening to chat, also they chatted after the meal and made everyone feel very welcome. Many of the guests were regulars coming back time and again and even coming back many times in the same year. This is good to see as it shows that the hotel is consistent and has good standards.

There was entertainment on one evening, dominoes - but I did not take part and sat and had a quiet drink in the bar; there was another room available to have a drink if dominoes was not your thing. Breakfast was very good and even had full English breakfast served at 8:30 every morning, the owner of the hotel even came in to tell us that the breakfast was ready, the same applied to the evening meal, a lovely 4 course meal at a very reasonable price. The owners certainly put themselves out for the guests, were very friendly and very accommodating.

This is a lovely hotel and I will certainly be returning there again, and have booked for two more visits in the summer.

Room Tip: all rooms are en suite. when you book, if you have mobility problems then let the owners know, they...

Stopped a couple of nights over Easter. The hotel is spotlessly clean the food was freshly cooked and the whole place had a warm welcoming feel. Lovely peaceful location far enough away from noise but easy to walk to the attractions . Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

What can I add to the previous reviews, only that Lawrence and Christine have kept up their immaculate standards. As far as my wife and I are concerned they are our extended family. My parents have been going to The Gordon for longer than Chris and Lawrence have owned it but didn't enjoy it as much prior to their takeover. We, my wife and I, have been going for the past seven or eight years and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when in that area. Lawrence is the most wonderful cook, preparing all his meals fresh, from the best ingredients. Quantities are more than adequate, even for a big lad like me. Friendly and fun are key words here in endless quantities. Prepare to enjoy yourselves.

What a lovely warm welcome we always receive. Welcome cuppa on arrival. The full English breakfast is second to none. We have been coming for a few years now, as a couple but also as a family, we brought our grandkids. I've never been to a hotel as family friendly as the Gordon. The owners, Christine and Lawrence are such lovely lovely people. Nothing s too much trouble for either of them. If I can't get in at the Gordon then i don't go anywhere. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: They're all good rooms
