“A comfortable home from home”
Reviewed 6 October 2010

If you are looking for comfort, value, and a friendly welcome, you will certainly find all these at the Palace Hill. Nothing was too much trouble for Trev and Allison, the owners, who ensued that my stay with them was a memorable one - for the right reasons, of course! The room was cosy, en suite, airy and recently redecorated to a high standard. The water in the taps was hot whenever I needed it, and the tea making facilities were regularly stocked, important for a tea drinker like me. Breakfast set you off to a good start each morning, with plentiful choice of cereal and as much (or as little) of a 'full English' as you want. A pot of tea or coffee as you wish. Cafes and restaurants throughout the town provide more than enough for a varied diet. Set in the old part of the town near the harbour, I recommend the Palace Hill Hotel to everyone who likes their privacy, as well as a central location in this busy fishing seaside town on the Yorkshire coast.

It was a pleasure to stay at the 'Palace On A Hill'. Each short stay in June, July, and September were all equally enjoyable.

A wonderfully inviting and aesthetically appealing exterior, the hotel could almost be set in rural picturesque countryside, as well as its location literally a minute from the bustling sea-front in 'olde town' Scarborough. A Grade II listed building steeped in history, a first impression to the uninitiated as we were in June, brings that 'Wow' factor.

The rooms are spacious, cleanliness is assured, tastefully decorated, and equipped with quality furniture, complimented by en-suite facilities. Breakfast is a wonderful cereal/ full English with toast combination. Service always with a smile.

One small point. If you are to arrive by car, be aware that due to the centralised location in a highly condensed area, parking is a premium, and an allotted 'disk zone' operation is active, so be prepared to park your car a couple of streets away. I personally had no trouble.

If you want to be treated like cattle, then stay at 'The Grand', but for a more intimate and comfortable break, 'The Palace' delivers. A big thank-you To Trevor and Allison for transforming what was once a run-down property, into possibly what is the best small hotel in Scarborough.
