We spent 3 days at the hotel, and although the accommodation was adequate, the service left much to be desired. The dining experience for example was interesting. We were required to go to the bar and wait to be seated, which is all reasonable. However, I struggled to understand why we were made to wait longer than guests arriving after us. This happened more than once.
The room was relatively small, but this was ok for the kind of hotel. However, it was August and the weather was warm, but the central heating pipes were on constantly. It was explained that they couldn't be isolated from the hot water system. The room was so hot that sleeping was almost impossible. We had to ask - more than once - for a fan. The one we got had a damaged plug (see pic). The cleaning of the bathroom left much to be desired, and the toilet roll holder was broken. See pictures of these also.

The most annoying aspect of the service came from a trip to the Sea-Life centre. We had booked tickets for this in advance, with the clear understanding that we would collect them from reception. At check in, we checked that this was ok and received reassurance. On the day of the trip we went to collect the tickets. Only then were we told we had to go to another hotel in the group to collect the tickets. The hotel was in Scarborough town centre. We had to drive there, find it, and then struggle to park in a busy area. All of this cost us the best part of an extra hour, forcing us to shorten our trip to the centre.

We complained at the end of our stay, and were offered a bottle of wine, yet a bottle of wine had been part of the deal from the outset.
I will not return to this hotel.

The hotel is located in an easily accessable location, outside of Scarborough, but close enough to walk either to the north bay, or the Yorkshire countryside to the west. We walked from Scarborough train station via the sea front and it took a couple of hours to get to the hotel. However, the main attraction of the hotel is the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The staff are welcoming and helpful. The grounds and hotel are well maintained and the room we stayed in was clean and comfortable (although possibly a little dated due to the historic nature of the building?) The food was excellent with a reasonable selection of wines. Even though we only stayed for one night, we left feeling refreshed (and well fed)!

We stayed at the Wrea Head on the recommendation of a friend local to the area and we were not disappointed. Myself, husband and mother in law had a lovely stay in this amazing hotel, we were treated with the utmost courtesy by all the staff who were, without exception, friendly, polite and professional - a credit to Anne Hodgson the Manager who also did all she could to make our stay most welcome ( is she never off duty ? ) We ate in the restaurant both evenings, the food was delicious with a change of menu both evenings together with a comprehensive wine list.
It is worth a visit just to check out the fabulously decorated bar.

We stayed at Wrea Head for two of the most relaxing and enjoyable nights we have had in a long time! As a young couple we were welcomed the same as any more mature visitor by the friendly and attentive staff and would reccomend this hotel to anyone - young or old alike. Location, food and especially the room were perfect, thank you to Anne the manager and the rest of the staff - we will definately be back!

This hotel has a perfect location on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors and with just a short drive to the centre of Scarborough and the coastline. You will be spoilt for choice
with places to visit and things to do. Our stay here was very relaxing, all the staff gave a fantastic service and the restaurant was superb, our complements to the chef. We will most definitely be returning.

Stayed for one night on 29th Oct.2009.Reception staff were very welcoming and professional. We were showed to our room which was a family room on the top floor with two double beds as we had a 12 year old with us.The room was very spacious and clean. We didnt eat dinner at the hotel as we were going out for the night. On arriving back the night staff were also excellent and accomodated our every need. The breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice and attentive staff. We had a great stay at Wrea Head and were made to feel very welcome despite what Beckshull has said in an earlier review. We suspect immaturity played a large part in her review and expecting a bride and groom to give up their room on their special day is absolutley ludicrous. You just cant please some people. We will be recommending this hotel and hope to return soon.
