We visited this hotel last year and had a mixed experience. This time we were able to use the Scarborough car parks more effectively so parking costs were less. The hotel is being refurbished and it's going to be lovely when completed. Our room had been done and was super, the entrance with the superb staircase was great but some painting was going on in the lounge which wasn't good. The food is an excellent standard with a wide choice and an excellent taste. We will go back later in the year and both of us would recommend it.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front have great views down to the harbour.

Don't be fooled by the standard of the foyer and reception.
An arrogant young male receptionist was rude and patronising. We nearly left the hotel within the first 5 minutes. The decision to stay was a bad decision - dirty rooms, poor decor, and badly trained staff. We - and others in the hotel- were amused by the amount of cobwebs hanging around the damp ceilings. This was the first time I have left a hotel without using the bath or shower. Breakfast was acceptable. The location was good.
I did write in the evaluation form but, given that there wasn't a box and I had to hand it in at reception, I doubt that the owners and managers will ever see it. What a shame when the building has so much potential. Some of the nearby restaurant owners talked about the past and how much it had deteriorated.
Never again!

Room Tip: Don't bother

stayed at this hotel for 1 night in a upgraded room with sea views, room was great size with everything we needed but let down by scratched walls, very poorly dressed bed and my pet hate, empty screw holes in the tiles in the bathroom where equipent has been removed and just left.
Breakfast was very poor with the usual picked over buffet (left over from the coach tour) the food was lukewarm and the tomatos uncooked
When not on a tour and when paying non tour prices i do object when you have to get everything yourself, ie juice, starter, breakfast and make your own toast (if you can get near the 1 toast machine) You go to a quality hotel to be looked after not to do everything yourself.
For a 1 night stay the hotel was ok but could have been better and if i had been paying the full rack rate of £175.00 for the room i would not have been happy.

Stayed at this hotel weekend before Christmas due to going on the Santa Train in Pickering. Staff were very helpful on arrival, our room was a bit quirky but it was clean and one of the biggest bathrooms ive ever seen. The staircase was magnificent helped by the Christmas decorations, evening entertainment exceptional. Breakfast was plentiful waiters very helpful, food was hot and very good, plenty of variety. Very old fashioned with creeky floorboards and great staff would stay again.
