A great hotel in a great location. Our room was clean , warm and had a great view. The hotel staff were welcoming and very helpful nothing was too much trouble- even a look round the suits. Not our first stay and it won't be our last.

Visited here as my other half had always wanted to come to this hotel. Made a booking through Late Rooms for £59 for bed and breakfast for our first anniversary that seemed like a good deal. On the outside the hotel looked rather shabby with huge chunks of render missing from the front. It is a very old hotel that used to be good in it's prime, but is now being run into the ground by the current owners (who are probably concentrating insted on raking in big money on weddings instead). Our room that we were given was a joke (room 401). One window didn't close, one had a towel shoved in a gap, the paper was peeling off the walls, the carpet was terrible and there were cobwebs on the lights. My heart sank so went straight downstairs to complain and ended up being moved to an 'executive room'. This was okay but nowhere near executive, and more of a standard room anywhere else. It had a sea view, but the glass in the window had come away from the pane leaving a visible gap that caused the room to be cold and brought in a lot of noise from outside. When the radiator was on at night it sounded like it was leaking due to all the noise it created. The picture hanging in the room and fallen down in an angle in it's frame and so looked bizarre.
When we arrived back in the evening from a meal there were no lights in the room. Complained again to reception who said to wait in the room and they would send someone up. Had to remind them that there were no lights and so would not do this and to send someone up now.
Breakfast was very poor and I have never seen such a horrible vat of porridge in my life that had simply been sat there for ages and was total gloop. A huge queue of people were forming for breakfast as nobody seemed to be clearning and setting the tables as people left.
When complaining about the window in the morning the manager said "what about now". The service at this place is terrible and they all seemed resigned by the fact that everyone complains and have given up on trying to be good. It really is the kind of place that should be on a tv programme like Gordon Ramsay when he has to try and turn it round. There is no investment in the place and is just patching up issues and faults. Sort your act out Brittania and stop just making it cheaper to visit to make it look like a good deal. You are a two star hotel at most.
Avoid, avoid, avoid...........

Stayed in a budget room for 2 nights. No window, but a false window so the room didn't resemble a box! That said I knew there wouldn't be one. Bedroom was spacious and clean. Not the most modern of furniture. But better than I was expecting in a cheap room.
The bathroom was excellent! Clean, plenty of room and the bath had jacuzzi jets if you wanted them (brilliant to lay there and relax).
The bar area was massive. Staff quick to serve and friendly. My only gripe about the bar was that it shut at mid night! ( manager. Its a hotel. Residents should be able to drink after mid night). Bar meals were good value and tasty.
As was the breakfast!!!!!!!
Yes, parts of the hotel look a bit dated. Especially the windows in the restaurant and bar area.
But for £75 for 2 nights including breakfast was great value.
We will definitely be coming back!

Set in a great location. Handy for shops and close to some good pubs. Room clean, tidy and spacious. Breakfast normal hotel buffet style. For the price paid, it was well worth it. You get what you pay for so adjust your expectations accordingly. Would stay again.

We've been trying to book a weekend break in a couple of weeks but the website freezes. To phone their chargeable Premium Line, only phone number they give, is a cheek and they won't respond to emails. We found a contact form for the hotel group Britannia, via Google, not on their website and we had a response saying they'd get back to us in 28 days. We also learnt from this site the pool is closed, only reason we were going there and the hotel turns out to be owned by Pontins. Who's running the place, CoCo the yellow Coat?

Just spent the weekend at the royal hotel scarborough. Oh My God!!! first thing you notice is the smell that hits you as you enter the foyer. Seaview room, yes, lovely and spacious, but that is about it, all furniture dated and seen better days. luke warm water, carper old, sticky and filthy, to match the 2 armchairs in the room. Very very noisy at night, could hear everyone going home from the 2 pubs down the road, can recommend the pubs, food was gorgeous there. Breakfast totally disgusting, porridge was a sight to behold!!! so didn't dare go for evening meal, and ate out for the 2 nights.
we had read the reviews on this hotel before we went, but thought we would give it a chance, but never again, all the reviews we read were correct.

Room Tip: stay at another hotel!!
