We travelled here with National Holidays, for 5 days during half term week. National had bookings for 3 different hotels in Scarborough and 8 of us stayed at the Royal. Another larger coach party was staying here and also some `a la carte` guests. Our `budget` room 429 was at the back of the hotel, no real view, but was roomy, lovely bathroom, ok bed and a good tv. We were `first sitting` 6.00 pm for evening meal and the food was good; we ate 3 couses every night; breakfasts were also good, buffet style. If I had to be picky then we are not fans of tea / coffee out of thermos flasks and the porridge was lumpy one day, but we enjoyed everything else.
The Royal is in an excellent location, ideal for views, walking, shops, bars, bus stops and train station a few minutes away. The reception staff recommended bus trips to Bridlington / Filey and Pickering / Thornton le Dale when we used our bus passes. National also took us to Whitby and Aidensfield `Heartbeat country`.
As others have commented, some updating is needed here and prices would probably increase accordingly.
